Beginning back in 2007 I started a little project where I re-wrote the words to this Trans-Siberian Orchestra favorite of mine to capture my own personal Christmas Eve Memory from my childhood. I have tweaked this a few times over the years and I am not sure I will ever get it to where I am perfectly content with it, but after all of these years, I thought I would share it.
My Christmas Eve Memory – Worked with Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Music Box Blues
Remember each Christmas Eve
When we sat next to our family tree
Ornaments reflected light
Of a candle in the night
And we had a phonograph
Back then that seemed like so much
We listened as it spun round and round
As the carols they, they unwound
But all these things are now long gone
And I want to enjoy them once again
Now the CD player continues to turn
The candle in the window continues to burn
But I know they’re just memories
Like Christmas past and our fam-i-ly
I remember that old staircase
Atop which my heart did race
And as I watched for Christmas treats
The fire warmed our morning seats
But now upon that Christmas scene
The candle wax of fading dreams
And ornaments of tainted glass
Now belonging to our past
But all these things are now long gone
And I want to enjoy them once again
Now it’s the CD player it continues to turn
The candle in the window it’ll always burn
But I know they’re just memories
Like Christmas past and our fam-i-ly
I miss the memory
Oh yes, I do
And it’s been far too long
Since I last reflected with all of you
Just close your eyes try and retrieve
Your own memories of Christmas Eve
We had the lights up on the Christmas tree
And the candle was lit for me to see
It’s beside this window I would stare
For inside this night I was always there
I know it’s in there for us each to recall
The joy and excitement felt by one and all
See, I still see the lights
Up on the tree
They’re shining bright
If you’d just believe
You’d see it with me
The candle’s burning
You know it’d be great
But the clock keeps turning
Yet I know it’s not
I know it’s not too late
We had the lights up on the Christmas tree
And the candle was lit for us all to see
It’s beside this window I would stare
For inside this night
I know we could all be there
