Several of us NH high school hockey fans were talking over the summer, and we agreed that maybe St. Thomas would be the team to beat in the 2017-18 season. Thus far it seems that maybe we were right.
St. Thomas remained undefeated with a 4-3 win at Kingswood tonight. St. Thomas built a 3-1 lead and then they held on for dear life and improved to 7-0 with their victory. Paddy Vetter (assist), Matt Barnes, Will MacLean and Zach Talbot scored for St. Thomas. The speedster Jojo Grella had two assists, while Matt MacLean, Brendan Tersolo and Keegan Youngclaus each had one assist. Kingswood fell to 2-4 on the season but has battled some stiff competition thus far.
To make matters even more interesting, Dover, who just knocked off previously unbeaten Windham, plays at Goffstown (5-1) on Saturday night, and then turns around to play the undefeated Saints from St. Thomas on Monday afternoon. Another note that makes this even more intriguing is that St. Thomas plays their home games at Dover Ice Arena which is also the home of the Dover Green Wave. On Wednesday night Dover used their standing room only crowd advantage in their upset win over Windham. Monday afternoon should be interesting to say the least.
St. Thomas plays Dover (5-1-1), Windham (6-1), Goffstown (5-1), and Oyster River (3-1) in their next four games. There is a lot at stake in the next two weeks. This is why they line up, drop the puck, and play games, because you never know!
This is NHIAA Hockey, Division II style, and it’s a lot of fun! Stay tuned and attend some games! It is a lot of fun watching these young men and women compete. It’s all about the kids.
