Day nine. Acadia National Park. Schoodic Woods Campground.
On day nine we woke up and cooked breakfast in camp. Then we went into Winter Harbor to take showers and get cleaned up. Since the campground has no shower facilities (per the request of the donor of the entire campground) there are a few places nearby where campers can shower for various fees. After feeling clean and refreshed we came back to camp and had a quick bite to eat. Then the three of us went back down to the Schoodic Education and Research Center for a Ranger-led program, the Animal Olympics. Theodore competed in the games where the kids had to work their way through 8 or 9 events, just the way a particular animal would. The Rangers did a great job leading these events and explaining the various animals’ abilities. The kids had fun going through the events. On our way back to camp, we stopped at Frazer Creek and played at the water’s edge as the tide came in under the bridge. We saw numerous green crabs coming in on the currents. We hustled back to camp to have lunch and then went back to the Research Center for another day of Marine Touch Tank. The kids were very eager to compare their experiences in Frazer Creek with the information being taught by the Rangers. After the classroom time, we stopped to play on the rocks on the east side of the Schoodic Peninsula looking out towards Rolling Island. We returned to camp to eat supper and have some down time before the Jr. Rangers and Evening Program at the amphitheater. The twins had invented their own game, dubbed, “Bulb Ball”, and played a few games of that in our tent while we relaxed.
