Day three. White Mountains National Forest. Hastings Campground.
After a night of heavy rain and a wet morning, we decided to take a ride in the van until the weather system pushed out of the area. We drove over to Turner, Maine to check out Martin Stream Campground, our destination the next day. We checked out our campsite, and we quickly determined that we were going to love it, and thought that Mom would too when she joined us the next day. We headed back to base camp and had lunch there. Then we took a walk through the woods behind our campsite and played in the gorgeous setting of Evans Brook. What a beautiful spot! After playing the water for a while we took a short 2-minute ride over to the bridge that spans the Wild River. We played in the Wild River for the rest of the afternoon, as the kids and I loved every moment. We came back to camp and had dinner before the kids rode their bikes around the loop for at least an hour. As the night sky darkened, we sat at the picnic table and watched the Perseids meteor shower again before going to bed. While falling asleep I heard coyotes calling each other down the valley to the south.
