Keene sent 15 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning and ran away with a 13-0 win at Goffstown. Peter Haas pitched five shutout innings to get the win for the Blackbirds, who are now 6-2 on the season. Goffstown dropped to 1-4 on the young season.
Goffstown’s Clay Campbell threw 50 pitches in less than an inning but nothing was working this afternoon at Lion’s Field. Campbell allowed 9 earned runs over two-thirds of an inning, allowing 4 hits, 5 walks, and a hit batter. Both teams had to know that the strike zone would be tight, and that should favor the offenses, but only Keene’s offense really showed up. Tucker Brown led the way for Keene on both sides of the ball. The cleanup hitter was 3 for 3 (all singles), he walked, scored twice, knocked in a pair of runs, and made a couple of great catches in centerfield. Gabe Fletcher had a single and a double on his way to 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Noah Timmer walked twice and singled, scoring twice for the Blackbirds. Keene scored 9 runs in the 1st inning and tacked on 4 more in the 5th to win it 13-0 in a shortened game. Peter Haas allowed 2 hits and 4 walks while getting the Grizzlies cleanup hitter to tap back to the mound twice, stranding a total of 4 baserunners in the two at-bats.
Goffstown had a total of 7 baserunners in the game, only 2 came via hits. Clay Campbell and Myles Green each walked and singled and had the only hits for the Grizzlies. Riley Belleau who pitched very well on short notice, entering in the 1st inning, went 4+ innings allowing 2 earned runs. Belleau also lined a shot to the fence in left-center field that would have been an RBI double but Tucker Brown robbed him with a great catch running it down at the last second.
Goffstown returns to the diamond tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 pm against Nashua South at Lion’s Field. South is 2-2 thus far. Goffstown has been outscored 23-5 in their four losses thus far. With heavy rains forecasted on Friday, the Grizzlies game on Friday has already been moved to Tuesday, April 30, at 4:00 pm, at Pinkerton.
