Since we didn’t get a chance to get up to our favorite place in Maine this summer, we took full advantage of a weekend at Abrams Pond in September.
The time went by too fast but we enjoyed every minute of it. The kids played and explored. My wife sat at water’s edge and read while soaking up some of the late summer’s glow. I managed to converse with red squirrels and spotted some old animal kingdom friends. The loons swam by to say hello. The great blue heron gave us a show with a nice low fly-by right in front of our little cove. The majestic bald eagle watched over us from his high perch in an huge old pine tree at water’s edge. I didn’t get pictures of the birds but the sky and landscape were every bit stunning as they ever were.
We are so thankful for the property’s most gracious and generous owner who allowed us a visit after the peak rental season so we could enjoy the serenity of this little Maine hideout. It was fantastic, relaxing, and much needed, as it is every year.
