Well folks, the time has come for some high school playoff hockey here in New Hampshire. There are three divisions in NH high school boys hockey and all three brackets are shown below. There is one division in NH high school girls hockey and that bracket is here too. Please check back to the school’s websites to make sure of times, bus departure times, and any other details that may be necessary.
The teams are set. The brackets have teams assigned to slots and seeded numbers. Of the 8 teams that played in a State Championship Hockey Game last season, across the four divisions, only one school (Monadnock-Fall Mountain – DIII) did not return to the tournament this season.
On the other hand, in Division I, defending champ, Bedford (1pm) is a #2 seed this season and last season’s runner-up Trinity (7pm), is a #4 seed and both will play home games at St. Anselm College on March 7th.
In Division II, defending champ, St. Thomas is a #3 seed this season and will open up at Dover Ice Arena for a 4pm tilt against #6 Somersworth-Coe-Brown. Last season’s runner-up, Dover is a #7 seed this season and will play on the road at #2 Merrimack (West Side Arena) for a 4pm (listed on NHIAA site) game. The Goffstown Grizzlies secured a #4 seed with a win in their final game of the regular season and will host #5 Oyster River at 4pm on Saturday at Sullivan Arena on the campus of St. Anselm College.
Division III, has two-time defending champs, John Stark-Hopkinton sitting in the #4 slot. They will host #5 Kearsarge-Plymouth at New England College for a 1pm clash. The winner of that game will meet #1 Berlin-Gorham in the semi-finals on March 11th at Plymouth State University.
Division I girls ice hockey has defending champs, Hanover in as a #4 seed this season. If you don’t know about the girls hockey program in Hanover, you have been missing a run of dominance. They have won 11 championships in the 12 seasons of NHIAA Division girls ice hockey tournaments. In fact, it has been a full decade since there was someone other than Hanover holding the trophy at season’s end. Not only that, they have defeated Exeter, #6 seed this season, in the last 3 championship games. Hanover will host #5 Pinkerton at 5:10pm (According to NHIAA site) on Friday night at Campion Arena. Exeter will host #11 Souhegan at the Rinks of Exeter, tomorrow at 2:45pm in a prelim game.
Get out to the venues and see some tremendous high school hockey and support these outstanding student athletes having the times of their lives. Best wishes to all the teams competing for the title in their respective divisions.
