While many places are not allowing travel hockey between states, the 2010 Flames loaded up on New Hampshire competition over the weekend. The Flames played a pair of games on Saturday and did it again on Sunday.
Manchester traveled to Hudson, NH on Saturday morning and then all the way to Wolfeboro, NH on Sunday morning. Both days ended with evening home games at West Side Arena.
- Flames earn a 7-1 victory in Hudson against the Cyclones
- Flames get a lesson in all aspects of hockey in a 9-0 loss to the Flames Minor 1 team.
- Flames go to Wolfeboro for half the day and get a 12-2 win at Back Bay.
- Flames and Cyclones battle at West Side with the home team earning a 3-1 victory.
I did not take any pictures down at Hudson on Saturday, but the Flames played very well as a team and everyone was involved in the team victory.
As always, enjoy the pictures. Click on them. Enlarge them. Share them. It’s all about the kids.
I did get some pictures of the 9-0 loss on Saturday night, and there wasn’t much to see from a Flames standpoint, but there is always something to learn. The Minors out-skated, out-passed, out-positioned, and out-hustled the 2010’s all game long.
- This was about the last time the 2010 Flames were close in this game.
- The 2010 Flames appear to be ready to play.
- The 10’s had some chances early on, but could not get anything to go in.
- Sean had a rush up the left wing that led to a great scoring chance.
- Sean lets a shot go with Teddy close by.
- Kids and coaches, we are blessed in both categories.
- This shot just missed wide of the post.
- There were a lot of these chances against the 2010 Flames in Saturday night’s game.
Next it was up to Wolfeboro for a battle with Back Bay. It was Back Bay’s first game of the season. Manchester was on fire right from the start. The 70+ degree day outside made the rink warm for the first time in all the years I have been going up there. The Flames did nothing but turn up the heat on the ice.
Jax in the Box
- This looks like it might get interesting.
- Jax on the follow through.
- Jax chases the puck through a series of lines, circles, and strange diagrams on the ice.
- Here we see Jax backing up the truck to unload a pass outside the crease.
Between The Pipes (more or less)
- Finley skates away from Travis after checking on him. He didn’t see a lot of action in this game.
- Travis sets up shop outside the crease just for something different.
- The opening face-off at Pop Whalen.
- Back Bay goaltending faced a lot of shots and made a lot of good saves.
- I think Sean scored on this play but for the moment it looks like the puck is stuck to the crossbar.
- Logan steps into a shot against Back Bay.
- Awesome moment with Jordan scoring a goal on something like the 58th rebound in a flurry out in front of the net.
- There she is, Old Glory and the scoreboard at Pop Whalen.
- The Flames were in constant motion all game long.
- Cam is in all alone and gets a shot away.
- Just a slightly biased look at my favorite player.
- Seans fires a shot past a defender at Back Bay.
- Jordan is all about focus against Back Bay.
- Logan leads the rush up ice at Pop Whalen.
- Logan works free for a backhand shot attempt.
- The Flames line up and salute their opponent at Back Bay.
- This sequence shows Soucy getting open for a backhand shot attempt…
- …What’s interesting is the route that he took…
- …but with all of the graffiti on the ice, I can see how it could get confusing…
- …then he finished things off with a little knee hockey maneuver.
- This is what we call point blank.
- Garrett is wide open in the slot and pounds a shot right into the goalie’s midsection. Notice the goaltender is at the top of the crease (less angle).
Then there was Sunday evening’s game against the Cyclones. These two teams met for the third time in 9 days. This was a battle. The Cyclones played hard and gave everything they had. Manchester absolutely dominated the second and third periods with possession of the puck in the offensive zone for minutes at a time. Despite the lopsided time of possession and scoring chances, the game was tied 1-1 going into the 3rd period. The Flames scored twice in the final period to nail down a 3-1 victory. Here are the remaining pictures from the weekend.
Between The Pipes
- Chances don’t get much better than one like this.
- Travis slid over and made the save for the Flames.
- Early in the game, the Flames let up some pretty good scoring chances but Travis was up to the challenge.
- Travis gets a piece of this shot with his glove.
- Cam, Sean, and Teddy look to breakout and create some offense for the Flames.
- Soucy’s backhand slid just wide of the post.
- Ian follows through on a shot attempt against the Cyclones.
- The Cyclones goalie makes a left pad save with the Flames crashing the net.
- Cam rushes the net while Teddy avoids some traffic.
- Sean and Teddy break in all alone against the Cyclones.
- Sean elects to take the shot.
- The puck beats the goaltender up under the crossbar for a Flames goal.
- Teddy celebrates the goal while Sean celebrates from the ice behind the net.
- Logan made a sweet pass to set up Ian, and Ian did not miss. Great pass. Great shot.
- Ian’s goal gave the Flames a 3-1 lead with just over a minute left in the game. It was an awesome play.
