As I sat in the woods this morning, talking silently with my Creator, under a peaceful, gentle, soaking rain, I was filled with Thanksgiving.
Immediately I was thankful for the rain. It was so quiet and calming out there this morning, that I could almost hear the earth sigh in relief for the much needed nourishment.
Then there were the thoughts of this year coming to an end and my perspective on the matter. I choose to look at the opportunities granted to us in the gift from our Lord, of each new sunrise. Truly, each new day, wrapped like a present in another sunrise, complete with a bow on top in the passing of each sunset. It has been a year that has millions of folks battling, whining, complaining, or even blaming. Please forgive me for any contributions I have made in these areas. I do choose to look for the choices we possess when facing adversity. Perhaps, a chance to be more resilient, or an open door to be more resourceful and independent. Look around and count your blessings.
Today, don’t be filled because it is Thanksgiving, but rather, be filled with thanksgiving. It seems to me that being genuinely filled with thanksgiving enrobes us in humility (probably in a flannel). So, as you look around your place of celebration today, look lovingly and closely at those folks whom you hold so dear, and be thankful. Start with the obvious, and sometimes overlooked, with your own fulfilling thanksgiving and build on it from there.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We have much to be thankful for.
