On a cold December afternoon, a mix of clouds and sun in the sky
We went over the river and into the woods, just the twins and I.
There wasn’t too much snow on the mountain but plenty of sign
Tracks of bobcat, deer, squirrels and a fresh spring from under a pine.
We ventured over snowy slopes, blow downs, rocks, and even rills
The hike was slick but we had a mission with all its’ thrills.
In a forest untouched Christmas trees aren’t kept like on a farm
But hunting fir trees in the woods on foot with kids has its own charm.
We found our A tree, as well as a B, and a C tree, scouting them all
I let the kids decide, eliminating the one too big and one too small.
Then, next to a gorgeous old birch that had seen many winters go past
I started and the twins finished with the bow saw felling the tree at last.
Beaming with excitement we started the half-mile haul back to the road
Over our tracks, past the spring, over the rocks, we barely slowed.
With the tree secured on top of our van, we climbed inside, all smiles for the ride
We loved our tree from an adventure where everything is better when done outside.

Excellent poem and every Christmas tree at my parents home for the first 23 years of my life looked like your tree and we loved them. They smelled so tremendous!

Thank you. Yes, I’m sure you had some beauties.

The poem, the pics, and the adventure coming to life
culminating in this beautiful tree lit up so merry and bright. It reminded me of simpler times, times without hustle and bustle. It reminded me of the joy, and the excitement brought by a skinny tree we filled in with icicles to hide the empty spots. Those skinny trees are the best, they are the ones we always remember so perfect in their imperfections and decorated with so much care. They always glistened the best and each one held a story. I thank you for sharing this post, your reflections, your sense of achievement after such an arduous task. May your days be merry and bright just like this tree, May you persevere and continue to be a bright spot to those you inspire when you behold your blessings and pass them along. The story is a simple one, yet powerful in so many ways. God bless you always and Happy New Year.

Theresa, thank you so much for following along, and even more for your feedback and reflection. I pray for simpler times often. Thank you for sharing and for your kind words.
Simply, I am abundantly blessed, continually in awe, and so inspired by simple moments. I hope to pass on the same to others somehow, some way. May God bless. Happy New Year!
