Not even the bright lights and ice of an old rink can brighten a moment quite like the glow of a dozen smiles
I entered the space and walked to the boards and the glass, I lit up, forgetting for a moment all of life’s trials.
For there on the ice were our 11-yr old players, their siblings, team coaches and the hardy hockey parents
A fun spin on a practice slot that felt like kids of all ages having fun, a timely endorsement of perseverance.
At one end, kids from different decades all dressed in their gear, playing for fun, a challenge to each their own
While some sat back to ponder the joy flying by on the ice, and wonder just where had all the time flown.
I saw twirls, spins and jumps, also present were circles, laps, and the unchecked genuine love for the sport
And were one to falter, to doubt themself, or maybe even fall, one would find the sincerest of child support.
It wasn’t hard to see that the night was a total hit! My kids thought it was the best idea, one to do again
Time flies, we know, and as the hours run away from the moment that was, we should recall where we’ve been.
The moment passed and the wrestling of ‘what’s next’ tries to take down ‘what was’, so I wrote this little poem
In hopes that we all are present in the moments that go too fast, wishing Merry Christmas to all where you roam.
