February 28, 2023 – NHIAA Hockey Tournament Brackets 2023. It’s the final day of February, 2023. The snow is falling, and it feels more like hockey season today, than it has for a lot of this crazy winter. I believe the first game of the Ice Hockey Tournaments starts tonight in Girls Ice Hockey. Check out the Brackets.
It’s NHIAA Hockey Tournament time!
The first game of the NHIAA Hockey postseason is tonight! (#7) Pinkerton hosts (#10) Exeter in Girls Ice Hockey at 6:10pm over at Tri-Town Ice Arena. Pinkerton beat Exeter, 5-4 in the regular season. The winner of tonight’s game will meet (#2) Oyster River-Portsmouth at UNH on Friday night.
The Concord and St. Thomas Boys Ice Hockey teams are both looking to repeat as Ice Hockey State Champs in D1 and D2, respectively. Concord is looking to 3-peat in D1, and they also shared the title in 2020. St. Thomas shared the title in 2020, after winning their first title in 2019. The Saints have been in the D2 Finals 4 of the last 5 seasons.
In Girls Ice Hockey, Hanover is looking to repeat as Champions and they are the #3 seed this season. Bishop Guertin is the #1 seed in this year’s tournament, and have won the title as recently as 2021. Oyster River-Portsmouth is the #2 seed and, they have not won a Girls Ice Hockey title as of yet.
Over in the D3 Boys Ice Hockey Tournament, Belmont-Gilford has the #1 seed and a bye until Wednesday, March 8th at Plymouth State University. Belmont-Gilford lost in last year’s title game to this year’s #2 seed, Berlin-Gorham. Berlin of course has the most storied hockey Championship history in New Hampshire hockey history.
I do know this, that whether a school, or combination of schools, has a history of winning NHIAA Hockey titles or not, there are always outstanding games, performances, and surprises in every tournament. Every season, players and teams are making history.
Get out to the venues and see some tremendous high school hockey and support these outstanding student athletes having the times of their lives. Best wishes to all the teams competing for the title in their respective divisions.
