February 25-26, 2023 – Three Out Of Four – 2010 Flames. The 2010 Flames finished their regular season play winning three out of four games over the weekend. With the regular season complete, the Flames earned the #5 seed in the Fed Hockey postseason. And over in GSL Hockey, they bagged the #4 seed. Playoffs begin on March 4th in Fed Hockey and on March 10th for GSL Hockey.
The 2010 Flames had a looong day down in Bridgewater, Mass, where they won both games. Then after the ride home, they to get up and play at 730am over at JFK Memorial Coliseum on Sunday morning. They won that game, 6-4 in a spirited affair over Rochester. Then on Sunday afternoon they traveled through some snow and traffic before getting pasted by the Shamrocks of the Green kind down at Pingree Rink.
That was it. The final weekend of the regular season. The first weekend of NH school vacation. It was a lot. A packed weekend of games, meals, miles, waiting, early morning, and more. So, I lead with this picture.
I only took pictures during the game at JFK against Rochester.
Here are some of them.

Bridgewater Bandits: 00 – 00 – 00 = 00
2010 Flames: 04 – 03 – 01 = 08
Flames goals in order:
- The Flames had the puck in the zone for quite a while. Back to the point to Logan McCain, then down in the corner, around the net, and all over the zone. Finally, Jacob St. Pierre fired the puck to the side of the net from the left-wing corner and Teddy Beal tipped the puck out front where Lucas Ouellette poked it into the net. 1-0, Ouellette from Beal and St. Pierre.
- Coming off of transition, Garrett Warren whipped the puck back to the left point where McCain fired a shot toward the net. Logan didn’t make great contact with the puck under pressure and the shot floated and tumbled in the air toward the crease. Ouellette was there and tipped the puck along its’ flight path and the puck bounced into the net. 2-0, Ouellette from McCain and Warren.
- Following a bit of a scrum for the puck in the defensive zone, Logan McCain took the puck off of the Bandits player and rushed the length of the ice with Lucas Ouellette on his flank. McCain fired and scored. 3-0, McCain unassisted.
- Bandits cleared the puck to center ice where Caleb Powers gained control back by his defensive blue line. Powers made a quick pass to his left where Andy Soucy was cutting up the ice. Soucy ran the puck down in the offensive zone and cut to the net. Coming out of the left wing corner, Soucy skated straight to the net and flipped a backhander past the goaltender. Good hustle, nice goal. 4-0, Soucy from Powers.
- On the power play, Jacob St. Pierre kept the puck in at the right point and danced around one Bandit player. Jacob skated to the faceoff dot and ripped a shot that the goalie saved, for a second. The puck trickled through the goaltender and slid to the far side post where Chase Giampa tapped it into the net. Power play goal, Giampa from St. Pierre, 5-0.
- Sean McGee won the offensive zone faceoff right to Lucas Ouellette. Ouellette spun and passed back to Logan McCain at the blue line. McCain lifted a shot that found the top half of the net, for the goal. McCain from Ouellette and McGee, 6-0.
- 2010 Flames won the offensive zone faceoff which led to a battle for the puck in the circle. Chase Giampa tipped the puck to Ian Kaveney. Kaveney was on the goal line below the right wing circle and his back to the end boards as he threw a pass toward the front of the net. The puck went through the slot to the other circle where Logan McCain grabbed it and shot from the goal line and somehow hit the net over the goalie’s shoulder but behind the goalie’s head. Incredible shot! 7-0, McCain from Kaveney and Giampa.
- Gavin Petrie won the offensive zone faceoff to Lucas Ouellette. Lucas dropped a backhand pass to Caleb Powers at the right wing point. Powers ripped a quick shot through traffic toward the net. The puck hit the apron of the net and caromed off of the end boards, right to Petrie who put the puck in the net from the slot. 8-0, nice puck movement off of the faceoff win, Petrie from Powers and Ouellette.
This was also the 9th shutout this season (4th in last 8 games) for the 2010 Flames. Will Rosenbeck and Travis Ingalls made all of the saves.

2010 Flames: 01 – 01 – 01 = 03
- Caleb Powers ended up getting a shot to the net through traffic. Gavin Petrie had a shot on net from the rebound, then Jordan Hawkes had a swipe at the puck too. Then the puck ended up on the forehand of Ian Kaveney who buried his shot for the goal. Flames led, 1-0, Kaveney from Hawkes and Petrie.
- Brody Phengsysouvanh kept the puck in the zone at the right point and promptly took a shot into traffic. Lucas Ouellette redirected the shot off his skate and onto the forehand of Andy Soucy. Soucy shot and it had a lofty trajectory but it grazed the defender and the pucks’ flight was altered. Literally, like a dying a quail, the puck fell from the sky and into the net. Flames lead, 2-0. Soucy from Ouellette and Phengsysouvanh.
- Shorthanded goal. Andy Soucy won the faceoff and slipped a backhand shot past the goalie’s blocker inside the near side post. Nice play in tight. 3-0, Soucy SHG, unassisted.
A long day in Bridgewater was made even longer when the Stonehill Women’s Hockey team won a playoff game against Post University. Paige Whaley, a junior from Ontario, Canada, scored her 12th goal of the season to lift the Skyhawks into the Semi-Finals, in double overtime. While this was unfolding, our 2010 Flames waited. And waited. Their second game of the day started started an hour late. It was a really long day for the Flames and their families.

Score by period:
Rochester Blackhawks : 02 – 01 – 01 = 04
2010 Flames: 04 – 01 – 01 = 06
Flames goals in order:
- Rochester tried making a D to D pass while retreating at center ice to reset and attack. That didn’t work because Chase Giampa read the play, split the D and stole the pass at his offensive blue line. Giampa made one move, got behind the defense and fired a shot inside the post. 1-0, great read and play. Giampa unassisted.
- Jordan Hawkes and Gavin Petrie were fighting for possession of the puck along the boards when Hawkes was flattened by a Rochester player. The puck squirted free as the referee’s arm went up to call the penalty. Ian Kaveney had grabbed the puck and skated to the low circle. Kaveney ripped a shot inside the nearside post, which nullified the penalty, but tied the game, 2-2. Kaveney from Hawkes and Petrie. Great shot!
- This was a great play. Logan McCain carried the puck from the D zone up through center ice. At the red line he made a nice hard pass to Andy Soucy leading him into the offensive zone. Soucy skated in and dished a sweet backhand pass to Lucas Ouellette on the left wing. It was a 2-on-2 but with the quick puck movement and Ouellette’s heavy shot, the puck was in the back of the net. 3-2, Ouellette from Soucy and McCain.
- Moments later, Sean McGee won the draw and Chase Giampa tapped the puck to Caleb Powers at the left point. Powers slid the puck over to Jacob St. Pierre at the right point. St. Pierre stepped inside a defender and fired from the slot. The shot hit the net, and the Flames had a 4-2 lead. St. Pierre from Powers and Giampa.
- While on the power play, the Flames scored on a rush. Logan McCain had retreated to the defensive zone to get the puck after it was cleared. He deked around on forechecker and found some space at center ice. Logan held the puck as he slalomed through a few more players before shooting the puck into the net to finish a meandering rush up ice. 5-3, power play goal, McCain unassisted.
- With the score, 5-4, the Flames were shorthanded with less than two minutes left. Rochester had pulled their goalie, so they had the 6-on-4 advantage. After the Flames iced the puck they blocked a shot and finally worked the puck to center ice. Andy Soucy was able to tip the puck past the skates of a Rochester player and gain possession in the offensive zone. Soucy shot quickly and accurately as the puck eluded on diving defender and another in the slot. Empty net, shorthanded goal, Soucy unassisted.
This was a battle. A lot of penalties called, and maybe even more penalties not called. Rochester is physical and they are definitely not afraid to take out their frustrations on opposing players. These two teams meet again on March 11th in the playoffs. It should be interesting.

Shamrocks Green: 02 – 02 – 03 = 07
2010 Flames: 00 – 00 – 00 = 00
Flames goals in order:
The Flames were shutout for only the 3rd time all season. 63 games thus far, and shutout only 3 times. I think that’s pretty good. This was not the Flames most inspiring performance, but that season is over. Now it’s on to the postseason.
Another round of pictures from last weekend.

The 2010 Flames will be in Wilmington, Mass. and Hamilton, Mass. for the first weekend of the Fed hockey playoffs, March 4-5.
