It’s NHIAA Hockey Tournament time!
D1 Boys NHIAA Hockey Final Four – #9 Keene slipped past #8 Exeter, 3-2, but then ran into the buzzsaw that is #1 Concord. #4 Bedford beat #5 Trinity in a thriller at Sullivan Arena, and they face Concord next.
#7 Londonderry squeezed past #10 Hanover, 3-2, and then upset #2 Windham, 2-1 in OT! Pinkerton shut out Bow, 3-0, and quickly learned how that felt after being bounced by #3 Bishop Guertin, 6-0. Guertin vs. Londonderry in the other Semi.
D2 Boys NHIAA Hockey Final Four – #1 St. Thomas had a bye and they haven’t played a meaningful game in a week and half. They will meet #4 Merrimack who beat #5 Goffstown, 3-0 in a game that was scoreless for more than 35 minutes.
#3 Oyster River held on to beat #6 Winnacunnet, 1-0. Winnacunnet played some the tightest games in the league this season. Meanwhile, #2 Dover shutout Somersworth-Coe-Brown, 3-0 to advance into the NHIAA Hockey Final Four against Oyster River.
D3 Boys NHIAA Hockey Final Four – #5 Kingswood upset #4 Hollis Brookline-Derryfield in a wild affair and it took 2 overtimes to do it. They will meet #1 Belmont-Gilford who had a bye.
#2 Berlin-Gorham had all they could handle in a 4-3 win against #7 Sanborn-Epping. They will play against #3 Pembroke-Campbell who doubled up #6 Kennett, 4-2.
D1 Girls NHIAA Hockey Final Four – #1 Bishop Guertin barely got by #8 Keene-Mon-Fall Mountain, 3-2. On the other side, #4 Bishop Brady-Trinity-Londonderry handled #5 Concord, 5-2.
#2 Oyster River-Portsmouth crushed the #7 Pinkerton Astros, 10-2. Meanwhile, #3 Hanover took out #6 St. Thomas-WNC-Dov, 3-1.
I do know this, that whether a school, or combination of schools, has a history of winning NHIAA Hockey titles or not, there are always outstanding games, performances, and surprises in every tournament. Every season, players and teams are making history.
Get out to the venues and see some tremendous high school hockey and support these outstanding student athletes having the times of their lives. Best wishes to all the teams competing for the title in their respective divisions.
