Three For The Road – 2010 Flames
While I was away in Canada, surrounded by family as we paid tribute to my Uncle Vernon, the 2010 Flames were busy. They played four games over the weekend, one in Vermont, two in NH, and one in Massachusetts. They managed three victories, three for the road.
I was not in attendance for any of these games. My wife took on her superhuman form as she so often does, to support me, to support all of us, as we rip through portions of life at breakneck speed. Thank you.
As I was away, I did check video and messages to keep tabs on the action on the ice here in New England. From Woodstock to West Side Arena, and beyond. Then I got home and spent several pre-dawn hours pulling together some notes for Three For The Road. Enjoy.

Flames at Lakes Region 11/18 at Merrill Fay Arena
- Flames 1st goal – Santitto worked the puck behind the net and St. Pierre picked it up. St. Pierre sent a pass through traffic that slid through the slot out to Petrie at the right point. Petrie loaded up and fired through the same traffic in front, and found the back of the net. Petrie from St. Pierre and Santitto. 1-0.
- Flames goal – Giampa and Santitto worked to get the puck out of a log jam behind the net. The puck came out to Hawkes at the right point and he fired a shot. The shot was tipped, down, and into the net right in front of the crease, by St. Pierre. Great goal. St Pierre from Hawkes and Santitto. 2-0.
- Flames SHG – Soucy was buzzing around like a mad hornet and he disrupted the Lakes Region power play by stealing the puck at the blue line. He motored into the O-zone and made a nice move to free himself for a shot right in front. He buried the shot for the goal. SHG – Soucy unassisted. 3-1. GWG.
- Goalie playing forward goal – The puck was fired wide of the net and almost cleared the zone. Beal kept it in at the left point and then sent a bouncing puck to Powers who got a nice shot on goal. The puck was saved, but Ingalls, yes that Ingalls, was on the doorstep to tap the puck into the net for the goal. Ingalls from Powers and Beal. 4-2.
- Flames final goal – Beal got the puck deep to St. Pierre below the goal line. There was nothing there so St. Pierre sent the puck back out to the left point, back to Beal. Beal slid a quick pass to Mooney at the right point. Mooney made a move and stepped inside the defender to rip a shot. The shot pinged off of the far post and into the net for the goal. Nice play, moving the puck to score the goal. Mooney from Beal and St. Pierre. 5-2.

Flames at Bay State Breakers Hoyle 11/19 at Hobomock Arena
- Flames 1st goal – Soucy and Beal advanced an offensive zone face-off like lead blockers on a goal line running play. The puck ended up on the end boards in traffic. Soucy wrapped the puck around the boards, through the corner and out to St. Pierre at the right point. St. Pierre got a quick slapper away and the puck found a seam through the defense and into the net, just inside the far post. St. Pierre from Soucy. 1-0.
- Flames goal – The puck had been in the zone for a bit and ended up behind the net where it was pushed to the corner. Mooney battled for it when Giampa grabbed the loose puck and fired it around the boards to Powers out at the right point. Powers got a good shot on goal but the puck was turned away. Mooney dug for the rebound and put the puck into the net for the goal. Nice play. Mooney from Powers and Giampa. 2-1. GWG.
- Flames goal – The 2010 Flames had an offensive zone face-off and it resulted in a draw, for a second. Then Beal pushed the puck with Soucy and Warren both pushing the puck and the defenders toward the net. The puck squirted free from Beal to Warren for a quick shot in close. The shot hit the goalie and then right onto Soucy’s stick. Soucy buried the opportunity, and the bull rush to the net resulted in a goal. Soucy from Warren and Beal. 3-1.
- Flames goal – The Flames won a face-off at center ice and Soucy ripped the puck into the zone. Beal raced down the wing and beat the defense to the puck after it had caromed off of the end boards. Before anyone could react, Beal flipped a backhand shot up and over the goaltender for the goal. A simple dump and hustle led to the goal. Beal from Soucy. 4-1.
- 5-on-3 PPG – Soucy won the offensive zone face-off and Petrie tied up his opponent’s stick. This allowed the puck to slide right into the slot where Petrie turned and fired a shot from point blank range for the goal. PPG – Petrie from Soucy. 5-1.
- Flames lucky bounce – St. Pierre’s rush was broken up by a couple of layers of defense and the puck went to the corner. Soucy made a simple backhand pass behind the net to Ouellette. Ouellette spun to his forehand and looked like he lost the puck or misfired the puck. A defenseman skated through to deflect the puck behind the net on a rather slow moving puck. But the defender’s stick was angled all wrong and the puck bounced off of his stick, up in the air, and into the net. Goal. Ouellette from Soucy and St. Pierre. 6-1.
- Flames goal – The 2010 Flames won a couple of offensive zone face-offs that led to shots on goal, but the goalie made glove saves. Then Soucy won another face-off, this time back to St. Pierre at the point. St. Pierre slipped a pass across to Booth at the left point. With Beal in front of the net, Booth stepped to the middle and got a shot away as Beal slid from side to side in front of the goalie. Just as Beal cleared, Booth’s shot found the net and the goalie barely even got a look at it. Nice goal with good puck and player movement. Booth from St. Pierre and Soucy. 7-1.
Flames Penalties:
- Soucy (Tripping).
- Giampa (Cross-Check).
- Giampa (Slash).
- Soucy (Roughing).
