November Numbers – 2010 Flames
For the second consecutive month, the 2010 Flames posted a 9-2 (won-lost) record. Going into the first week of December the team was 26-5 for the season. That’s a pretty impressive record for any team.
November Numbers – Team
- The 2010 Flames played 11 games in a total of 8 different rinks in November.
- Here’s an interesting stat (I think it is): Of the 11 games played, the Flames played an organization that started with the letter ‘B’ 8 times. Yes, 8 times! No wonder I have to check the schedule so often.
- The 5 organizations that started with ‘B’ in November were, Boch, Back Bay, Boston, Bay State and Bridgewater.
- The Flames were 4-1 in November home games (4 games at West Side Arena and 1 game at JFK).
- The Flames were 5-1 in November road games.
- The team outscored their opponents 51-20 in the 11 games of November.
- November was their lowest scoring month thus far.
- Shutouts – The Flames were shutout once in November, 1-0. Their only time being shut out so far. In the meantime, Ingalls and Rosenbeck combined for 3 shutouts in the 11th month of the year.
- Goals allowed – 55% of the goals that the Flames allowed came in the 3rd period.
- Goals scored – The Flames scored 15 goal in 1st periods, 17 goals in 2nd periods, and 19 goals in 3rd periods.
- Goal differential – The biggest margin was in the first period of games, where the Flames outscored their opponents by a 15-2 count.
- Goals against – The team allowed only 1.82 goals against per game played in November.
November Numbers – Teammates – 2010 Flames
There were two teammates who missed all of the games in November due to physical ailments. We wish both of them a speedy recovery and a prolonged return to good health. They are definitely missed.
So, when numbers are recorded in team sports they tell a part of a story, but only a part. I share them because I do believe there is power in measuring results in order to educate, in order to become more efficient, and in order to improve. I do not believe that there should be any additional pressure put on anyone due to numbers because so much is out of any one person’s control.
In the areas of real measurement, the two things that should be at the top of the list of measurables that are in each of our control would be attitude and effort. Perhaps it’s cliché, and I am not a big fan of cliché.
So, think about the mindset a player has as they skate up and down the ice shift after shift. Are they in it for themselves? Are they mindful of making every one of their teammates better players by the way they are playing the game?
Are they angry, vengeful, or out for the righting of every wrong? Are they thinking about how hard they are working, or is their hard work just a reflex of putting that effort into practice every time they touch the ice? Do they think that nobody is scoring against us when I am on the ice?
Or are they thinking, I have to score this game, for this reason or that? Is making a pass here the best hockey play even though I think I am the best chance we have? And so on.
There is a lot that can be controlled in any team sport but most of it comes from practice and preparation. Then those things are magnified by the body’s ability to compete effectively which is managed largely by that space between the ears.
But remember, 2010 Flames, it takes every single one of you to make a game, a week, or a season, a success. And that isn’t even able to be explained strictly in numbers anyways.

My favorite part of these names and numbers is that they are good kids and they really seem to enjoy playing for each other. I will take that every single time. Play for one another – which means giving your best attitude and effort because you don’t want to let your teammates down. It should also mean that there is a time to carry the puck, a time to pass the puck, a time to shoot the puck, and a time to make the unselfish play because it benefits so much more than one player.
I do love this team, and that might be why I spend so much time tracking things and hopefully sharing as much team glory as possible. Life is short, let’s lift each other up, because frankly there are incalculable forces working all around us to drown out accomplishments and goodwill. Keep up the hard work, the team work. Always find a cause bigger than yourself.
November Penalties in Minutes: 110
When I do my spreadsheets I keep the penalty minutes simple for myself. So, I don’t do 1.5 minute penalties or 8 minute misconducts. Mine are tracked like high school, college, and pro hockey minutes are. 2 minute minors, 5 minute majors, and 10 minute misconducts. So these are all minors and misconducts.
- 22 – Andy Soucy.
- 16 – Caleb Powers.
- 14 – Teddy Beal, Chase Giampa, and Garrett Warren.
- 6 – Tyler Mooney, Lucas Ouellette, and Gavin Petrie.
- 4 – Jaden Booth and Cooper Lazzaro.
- 2 – Jordan Hawkes and Will Rosenbeck.
November numbers: Other notable numbers
- Shorthanded goals – 1 each – Caleb Powers and Andy Soucy.
- Power Play goals – 6 total – Gavin Petrie (3), Chase Giampa, Lucas Ouellette, and Andy Soucy with 1 apiece.
- Game-Winning-Goals – 9 total – Teddy Beal (3), Andy Soucy (2), Chase Giampa, Tyler Mooney, Lucas Ouellette, and Garrett Warren with 1 GWG each.
- Travis Ingalls skated as a forward for a pair of games, and scored a goal from a solid 11 inches away from the goal line. He also had an assist while playing goalie. Will Rosenbeck had an assist over the weekend but that will be in December’s recap.
Now we are less than three weeks from Christmas and this concludes November Numbers for the 2010 Flames.
Countless hours of my life have been spent in the tracking of numbers while loving the sports and players that produce them.
