2023-2024 Flames Profiles – 2010 Flames
It’s the roster. They’re our kids. The ones we love and the ones we drive the miles for.
They all measure up whether we know it or not, remember, we aren’t the ones.
They wear the numbers on the line, if we did anything different, it would only be more.
We should give them space and take them home, odors, and all the gear, our loves, our sons.
Moms carried them long before any sticks and hockey bags, once a life, always a life.
Dads fill with pride watching them play, and the things we say only stick in thirds.
We sit in a nowhere rink in the cold, our love runs warm, and the kids never looked so alive.
Whistles, shouts, high fives, genuines smiles, and a great big hug mean more than words.
Taking in the kids at play on fields of green from a comfy chair, moves to cold seats near the ice.
Our summers last 60 days then move indoors and they end long before the autumnal equinox.
Teammates, new and old, gather to meet or rejoin, and we hope they all get along real nice.
The scenes unfold, and then the chat, I looked everywhere but can’t find my kids’ socks.
The games are played, skills practiced in between, a discerning eye notices subtle tendencies.
Weeks fly by faster than the miles piling up, and we see lots, but do we ever really know.
What are these kids really like, and are they comfortable showing sides that one seldom sees.
So lets us learn, let us love, let us nurture, for one, for all, for life needs an environment to grow.
Here is the 2023-2024 Flames Roster. The team is listed in numerical order. There are people who could create something much more spectacular and visually appealing than I. But, here is our 2010 Flames team, with a lot of help from Nichole Mooney and the rest of our hockey families.
I am a Dad. I am a fan. I love these kids. I would do anything to keep them from harm, or to lift them up. But honestly, they lift me up more times than I can count. Watching our kids play should be fun, not a 90 minute challenge to scrutinize from a 20/20 vision of the years they haven’t lived yet. Remember, we were kids, and our favorite times were play times. Let them play. It’s all about the kids. Enjoy.

2023-2024 Flames Profiles – 2010 Flames – Coaches and a random guy
I asked the coaches what their favorite number, or uniform number is, so that is why the coaches have a number listed with their name and position.
Nick Warren – 33 – Head Coach
- Home Town: Columbus, OH.
- Favorite Hockey Team: Detroit Red Wings.
- Favorite Athlete: Wayne Gretzky.
- Favorite Movie: Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi.
- Favorite Food/Snack/Meal: Italian food (Anything with melty cheese!).
- Favorite person to meet from all-time: Someone from the 1800’s. The stories they would tell would be fascinating.
- Coach Nick gets introduced at the Coaches vs. Coaches Winter Classic. It was the 1st Annual Charity Game to raise money for the MRYHA Assistance Fund.
- This is Coach Nick in action at the Coaches vs. Coaches game. Notice the defense gives him plenty of space as he is a known offensive threat. On a different note, a random poll of youth players attending the game gave the coach a loud bit of advice, “HIT THE NET!” Also of note, Coach is wearing his authentic Bowling Green Falcons socks from his storied college days. Johnny Hawkes – 30 – Assistant Coach
- Home Town: Amesbury, MA.
- Favorite Hockey Team: Boston Bruins.
- Favorite Athlete: Patrice Bergeron.
- Favorite Movie: Miracle.
- Favorite Food/Snack/Meal: Surf and Turf.
- Favorite person to meet from all-time: JFK Jr. (answer given by an anonymous participant who claimed a lack of patience)
- Coach Johnny, the innovator, has rolled out a new method of coaching. This approach of coaching is called, “No Look” coaching. Like a no look pass, it can be very effective. I heard he may be working on a book simply titled, “No Look Book”. Don’t look for it in stores any time soon.
- In this shot we see an injured Andrew at the helm. He had just laid down some deep, deep wisdom. The other coaches broke into groups of two to discuss. Good thing that warm-ups are only 3 minutes long. (Photo by 1inawesomewonder. 2024.)
Adam Ouellette – 33 – Assistant Coach
- Home Town: Hooksett, NH.
- Favorite Hockey Team: Boston Bruins.
- Favorite Athlete: Mark Messier.
- Favorite Movie: The Shawshank Redemption.
- Favorite Food/Snack/Meal: Mexican / Tacos.
- Favorite person to meet from all-time: Albert Einstein.
- Coach Ouellette and Andrew share a light moment before the first game of the weekend. Andrew has been working on his stand-up comedy routine while injured. It appears that he is getting better and better. (Photo by Mooney’s Moonshots)
- Thoughts from the intermission. Coach Adam, “That’s a good point coach. Intriguing actually.” Flames 63, “My goodness! Really?!?! I haven’t heard this one before. Wait, was there really an ice cream truck here earlier?” (Photo by Mooney’s Moonshots)
Dave Soucy – 33 – Assistant Coach
- Home Town: Lawrence, MA.
- Favorite Hockey Team: Boston Bruins.
- Favorite Athlete: Larry Bird.
- Favorite Movie: The Godfather.
- Favorite Food/Snack/Meal: Thick grilled pork chop with all the fixings.
- Favorite person to meet from all-time: Jackie Robinson.
- So much in a split second. Players hustle to the areas of the ice where the plays are made. Coaching players is happening in real time at the Flames bench. Motion and engagement so good for the body and mind. (Photo by Mooney’s Moonshots)
- Coach Dave overlooks his handiwork, and approves of what he sees. But something is gnawing at him. That something is this. If kids can tie their shoes, why can’t they tie the strings on the front of their jerseys.
Tim Ingalls – 18 – Head Coach U16
- Home Town: Winthrop, MA.
- Favorite Hockey Team: Boston Bruins.
- Favorite Athlete: Cam Neely.
- Favorite Movie: Miracle.
- Favorite Food/Snack/Meal: Steak and Baked Potato.
- Favorite person to meet from all-time: Bobby Orr.
- Coach Tim slips off his glove to address the countless number of fans that gave him a rousing ovation during introductions. Nearby, Coach Nick steadies the net. Always a fan favorite, he learned a long time ago that it’s impolite to wave with a glove on indoors.
- Coach Tim, known as a stay at home defenseman. No, really, he lives in the snow belt on a road with the word hill in it. They get more snow than anyone. It snowed. Gotta stay home.
- Head Coach Nick Warren.
- Assistant Coach Johnny Hawkes. Johnny keeps busy by coaching hockey on 13 different hockey coaching staffs. (Photo by 1inawesomewonder. 2024.)
- Assistant Coach Adam Ouellette.
- Assistant Coach Dave Soucy.
- Coach Tim Ingalls, circa 2019.
Steve Beal Sr. – 7 – Dad
- Home Town: Goffstown, NH – From Londonderry, NH.
- Favorite Hockey Team: Boston Bruins. 2010 Flames. Goffstown Grizzlies.
- Favorite Athlete: Ted Williams, Wayne Gretzky.
- Favorite Movie: This is a tough one. Miracle. For Love Of The Game. Field of Dreams. Legends of the Fall.
- Favorite Food/Snack/Meal: Steak, Potatoes, home made bread or rolls, and fresh Garden Salad.
- Favorite person to meet from all-time: Jesus. Apostle Paul. Charles Spurgeon. Lewis and Clark. Abraham Lincoln. U.S. Grant. Chief Joseph. Sitting Bull. Quanah Parker. Teddy Roosevelt. Ted Williams. Buck O’Neill. My Uncle Roger (died as an infant). My Dad, all over again. There are so many more.
There you have it, the 2023-2024 Flames, the 2010 version. We are a mix of 2010’s and 2011’s, and it’s a good mix. The coaching staff loves this team, and the team loves to play for the coaches. It should also be noted, no, actually it should be accentuated, that these kids are getting better and better.
I would rather have a group of kids that love to show up and play, that are coachable, and have no idea when to quit, than a group of x’s and o’s junkies that hate every minute of it. These kids work hard and love playing together. They are a blast to cheer for, and I can’t want the very best for them more than I do.
I just get tag along for the ride.

The 1st Annual Coaches vs. Coaches Winter Classic Fundraising Game. The proceeds from the MRYHA Family Skate (before the game) and the game itself went to the MRYHA Assistance Fund. The fund helps MRYHA families in need and allows more kids to have access to hockey and team sports.
Countless hours of my life have been spent in the tracking of numbers while loving the sports and players that produce them.
- Strat-O-Matic baseball board with my own notes written on the board. The two Sporting News magazines that I kept from 1977, with my favorite two players, Dr. J and Pistol Pete. Red Sox Yearbook from a trip to Fenway, Fred Lynn’s last season in Boston.
- My brief note sheet tracking the 2010 Flames six goals on Saturday at JFK. My notes were significantly shorter than the game itself.
- The other side of Saturday’s notes. Multiple games, and a practice autograph to make sure a new pen writes the way I like. Plus you never know when one might run into autograph seekers.
- I would ask for the Sporting News Register for hockey, baseball, basketball, and football every year for Christmas. Every box score, every stat, pictures, and countless stories. Those were my favorites.
You can find more 2010 Flames material in these pieces, here. 2010 Manchester Flames.

The current look at my ‘hockey office’. So many hours spent in this space, tracking numbers and capturing season after season. (C) 1inawesomewonder 2023.

Either way, “It’s a great day for hockey” ~ the late “Badger” Bob Johnson.
