January 21, 2024 – Almost Full – JFK Coliseum – West Side Arena –
The 2010 Flames game time roster was almost full. Andrew Drumm returned to the lineup for the first time since late October. The Flames won a GSL game and then they tied their EHF game later the same afternoon. It was a good day. The active roster is almost full, and I hope it will be full again very soon.
It was a cold, windy January morning on Saturday, and the 2010 Flames played host to the Upper Valley Storm at JFK Coliseum. The Flames did pile up the shots and scoring opportunities on their way to a 7-0 win. They had almost all of their players back on the active roster, as Andrew Drumm returned to the lineup. They are almost full, or better yet, almost complete.
Here is a look at the scoring plays for the Flames during the game.
- 2010 Flames first goal – The Flames had possession of the puck in the offensive end, but were not clicking just yet. Powers pinched down the wall and took the puck to the corner before ripping a shot/pass off of the back of the net. The puck was grabbed on the other side of the net by Ouellette. He quickly hit Giampa out in front with a pass and Giampa poked the puck into the net. Giampa from Ouellette and Powers.1-0. GWG.
- Flames power play goal – The Flames won the face-off just outside the offensive zone, and Soucy, Beal, and Booth worked the puck over the line and to the far corner. Soucy won the puck in the far corner, circled behind the net and hit Booth with a pass at the left point. Booth stepped in to take a slap shot as Beal was tripped (no call) in front of the net. As Booth wound up, Beal (sitting on the ice) ducked and covered up, hoping not to be drilled with the shot. But Booth’s shot flew over Beal’s head and into the top corner of the net for the goal. PPG – Booth from Soucy. 2-0.
- Flames score their third goal of the period – The 2010 Flames rush into the zone didn’t work, and the puck came out to center ice. Warren was first on the puck and he made a little backhand pass back to St. Pierre while the rest of the line tagged up. St. Pierre took the puck, looked at a wide angle view of the country before him on Google maps, picked a circuitous route, a scenic route for sure. This route led him into the offensive zone and on to his forehand side. As he faded to the right after his long travel, he ripped a shot that beat the goaltender up high. Snipe! St. Pierre from Warren. 3-0.
- Flames pick up where they left off – Everyone on the ice was involved in this play. Powers to Santitto through center ice, and Santitto dumped the puck into the zone, deep. Beal raced to the puck in the far corner and centered a pass to the low slot but the goaltender poke checked it from the area. Soucy pressured the clearing attempt enough so that Hawkes could hustle over and keep the puck in at the point. Hawkes to Soucy at the half wall. Down low to Beal in the corner. Beal found Soucy in the circle but he was tied up and the puck slid right through to the slot where Hawkes buried the wide open shot. Good puck movement. Got the puck deep. Hustle to win the puck. Pressure on the forecheck. Hustle to maintain possession of the puck. Pass. Pass. Pass. Shot, score. Hawkes from Beal and Soucy. 4-0.
- Five for the Flames – The Flames were on the rush but lost the puck. Soucy pressed the defender and got the puck back on the half wall. He turned and sent a beautiful pass to Ouellette who was wide open in the slot. Ouellette couldn’t handle the pass, but he did chase the puck down on the far boards. Ouellette centered the puck to Mooney in the slot, and Mooney scored. Another set of good hockey plays. Mooney from Ouellette and Soucy. 5-0.
- They say it’s a long way to the top if you want to rock ‘n’ roll – I say it’s a hard skate to the net if you want to score a goal. Drumm regrouped after losing the puck for a second. Then he sent a long pass up the wing to Beal who got the puck into the zone but the D moved the puck further into the zone to the end boards. Soucy got to the puck first, and he turned the net sent a pass to the crease where Beal was hangin out, and Beal put the puck in the net. Stretch pass/ dump in, get the puck, go to the net, pass, shot, score. Beal from Soucy. 6-0.
- Final goal of the morning – Soucy won the offensive zone face-off to Hawkes. The defense swiped at the puck, and knocked it off of Hawkes stick. But Beal was making his approach to the net and the puck came right to him and he snapped it home, nearside on one touch. Simple face-off play. Soucy puck touch to win the draw. Hawkes puck touch to maintain. Beal follow the play, puck touch, in the net. Beal from Hawkes and Soucy. 7-0.
The 2010 Flames won their first league game since December 16th. I know that the goals and assists are the attention getters. I tried to add some of the play that allowed the goals and assists to happen. There was so much more than what I wrote. These are the plays that need to be celebrated and reinforced because they are the strong foundation and structure that can carry the weight of goals, assists, and all the rest.

(MRYHA) 2010 Flames: 03 – 02 – 02 = 07
2010 Flames Penalties:
- Drumm (Interference).

Ingalls and Rosenbeck played very well, going 16 for 16 in saves for the team’s 8th shutout this season.
Game two on Saturday was a rematch of last weekend’s match up with the Bay State Breakers Petrie team. You remember, the game where the ref cancelled the post game handshake lineup because the team’s were a little too friendly with one another.
I only got to see the first half of the game, but it was a really good game.
- 2010 Flames score first – The Flames had the puck, then they didn’t. The Breakers had the puck but Lazzaro broke up the play. He made a pass up the wall to Beal at center ice. Beal got to the blue line and dumped the puck in the zone close enough to the goal that the goalie had to play it. The Breakers wrapped it behind the net to work their breakout. Then they tried to go D to D but Beal grabbed the puck below the goal line and sent a pass to the crease before the D could react. Warren and St. Pierre were both there. St. Pierre had the angle and he slammed the pass into the net for a one-timer goal from the blue paint. Another something from nothing goal by executing things just right. St. Pierre from Beal. 1-0.

The Flames held a 37-23 shots on goal advantage in this game. The goaltending tandem of Ingalls and Rosenbeck were sensational. The Breakers goaltending was also outstanding.
Countless hours of my life have been spent in the tracking of numbers while loving the sports and players that produce them.
