Just a good sense of imagination, a spot on the floor, and a pile of pucks. Continue Reading...

Deal Me In
Today’s Cure: Healthy Imagination
After a relatively sleepless night dealing with coughs, colds, fevers, and a case of croup, the twins and I are settled in for the day. We received 3 or 4 inches of wet snow overnight. It'll likely disappear by the end of the day, but there's still several inches of frozen snow in the yard under the fresh stuff. We decided to keep the twins home from pre-pre school this morning. So now it's the Continue Reading...
Potholes and Puddles
Once in a while, quite often actually, I think it's good to just let kids be kids, regardless of my personal feelings on cleanliness, order, and things along those lines. Yes, we have a huge pothole in our driveway. Yes, the kids have assisted in its growth more than any other natural factor. Yes, Theodore does have his boots on the wrong feet, but it didn't slow him or his imagination down at Continue Reading...
The Spot
This is the spot where I used to stand. How I wish I could see it again as it was 30 years ago, the views, the fences, the lay of the land. Minutes turned to hours here, even an afternoon. I would day-dream, swing a bat, or throw rocks. It always ended too soon. The fence is gone and the road now paved. I miss the way it was, the cows, the dirt, the rocks, you know, back in the day. I’d Continue Reading...
Bruins Win! Bruins Win!
Maybe I was 12 years old, standing on a small sheet of ice, not much bigger than a couple of puddles strung together. I had boots on my feet because I didn't own skates, but many days I skated like the wind. Nearby was a completely home-made hockey net. It wasn't the right size, or even symmetrical. To me though, it was perfect, and the crease was the place where you entered the Hall of Fame. I Continue Reading...
Little river trip
Yesterday the twins and I took a little ride to one of our neighboring towns, New Boston, NH. We enjoy the river and the kid-friendly trail which is partly made up of the original bed for the old Boston and Maine Railroad. This trip though, was more about playing by the water. So, for about an hour the kids and I played at water’s edge. A sudden cloud-burst of showers drove us to the van after I Continue Reading...
My very beautiful flashlight
I was sitting in the office when I heard Theodore running down the hall saying, “Sister! Sister! Let’s go upstairs.” I looked over to see him race by me holding a small, toy cupcake. Jacqueline followed and addressed me as she passed by. “Dad”, she said, “this is my very beautiful flashlight”, while holding out a toy cupcake for me to see. She continued, “It’s black and white, and very beautiful.” Continue Reading...
