After splitting a pair of Saturday games against first place teams in respective leagues, the Flames traveled to play the Islanders at Gallant Arena Sunday morning. Manchester started slowly against the competitive Islanders team before getting on the board and building on their lead. Before all was said and done, the Flames had earned a 6-0 victory over the Islanders.
Here are some pictures and light commentary from the balcony above the ice rink at Gallant Arena. Don’t forget to click on pictures to see close ups and of course: Enjoy!
- Third goalie of the weekend, our own Logan McCain. He did just fine.
- Lots of colors, cool uniforms, several players, but just one puck.
- Austin took the shot and Teddy looks for a rebound but there were no scraps this time.
- Logan ventures out of the net, displaying a new style of goaltending. Also, a most rare photo of a group of “divisible by 11’s” skating together.
- Austin gets behind the defense with the puck lifting off of his stick.
- And the puck hits the net up in the top corner where Grandma hides the cookies.
- Teddy was pulled over and ticketed for a long list of violations.
- This is a goaltender in the wild, in his natural setting. If you listen closely, you might be able to hear his male parent calling, “Stick on the ice!”
- Lots of traffic between the blue line and the net.
- Drew thinks, “Outta my way stripes!”
- Ian fires a shot at the net down at Merrimack College.
- Logan stares down a would be shooter while Colby and Gavin hustle to defend.
- Drew scores this one as he, Teddy and Ian (in Gretzky’s office), created the scoring chance.
- Ian gets a shot past the defender looking for some room on the short side.
- Jax lets a shot go against the Islanders. Meanwhile I am thinking about spacing, as 10 of the 12 players on the ice sheet are all in a small area.
- Finley starts the rush up ice while Garrett and one of the Islanders race each other, sprint style.
- Austin and Finley are on the hunt while the Islanders look in every direction. The ref waves off a goal or conducts the orchestra, hard to tell.
- This didn’t end up in a goal but the effort and contortions are impressive.
- At the other end of the ice, Logan holds on, and the ref continues conducting.
- Standard. Jax fires. I take a picture. On to the next one.
- Luke shoots as an Islander swipes at the puck.
- Ian does his best “Mark Messier off-wing wrister” (look it up), while Teddy runs some interference.
- Ian’s shot hit the mark and the Flames increase their lead.
- Drew and Teddy get a chance and this shot just missed wide.
- Austin goes sideways airborne (new term) to get this backhand shot off.
