The first period of yesterday’s game could have buried the 2010 Flames as the Crimson Club 10 team stormed the offensive zone and clogged the shooting lanes in their defensive end. Despite a lopsided advantage in shots on goal, the Crimson only managed a 1-1 score after the opening period.
In the second period things started to even out eventually, but not before the Crimson had taken a 3-2 lead over the home team. The game was tight, with a lot of stick work and physicality from both sides. The goaltenders played well for both teams, and goaltending was enormous for the 2010 Flames early on. Late in the middle period, the Flames took the lead, 4-3, on a power play goal, and held that lead at the end of the period.
In the final period, the Flames just kept applying pressure, getting shots to the net, and breaking up Crimson rushes up ice. The home team scored goals on a nice backhand, and a quick shot before the goaltender could get set. Then the 2010 Flames punctuated the comeback with an empty net goal, to bring the final score to 7-3. The Flames were down a pair of forwards for the game, and the rest of the team stepped up to fill any void and impose their will en route to victory. It was a great team effort, as evidenced by their tireless work and a team total of 9 assists on their first 6 goals.
