After a loss on Saturday to a very good Concord team on the road, on the morning following Christmas day, the Flames returned to home ice for a game with Lakes Region. Lakes Region is another solid team in the same division, and the Flames had all they could handle.
Flames 3 – Lakers 2
The Flames jumped out to a 1-0 lead and held that lead going into the third period. Then in a matter of seconds it seemed, Lakes Region used a Flames turnover into a breakaway goal to tie the game. Moments later Lakes Region was at it again with a clear breakaway that was denied before regaining the puck and taking a 2-1 lead. Manchester then put back to back transition goals up on the board to take a 3-2 lead. They would hold on and win the game 3-2. Both teams played well and the pace was pretty awesome.
Here are some pictures from the Lakes Region game. Click on them. Enlarge them. Check them out. Enjoy!
- The Flames get ready to take on Lakes Region. I do think they look cool in their Christmas sweaters.
- The Flames get back on D but “Travie Baby” goes to his tool bag for the old paddle save.
- This is Caleb while he was doing a photo shoot for a Bauer ad campaign.
- Jax gets this выстрел по воротам (shot on goal) in honor of his mother’s birthday.
- Travis makes a save while Logan looks on and somehow Jordan made his uniform number into a frosted donut.
- They say it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but rather the size of the fight in the dog. Then, there’s the “Russian Bear” with a head of steam.
- The Flames celebrate a goal scored that was started with a nice shot from “The Mighty Fin”.
- Caleb, making bank. Just shooting commercials in his spare time.
- Sometimes goaltenders need a little help, especially with Sean, Teddy, and Cam on the offensive.
- Logan unleashes a shot against Lakes Region while I have to wonder how the defender can see at all.
- Travis is all “laces down” getting ready for this breakaway attempt.
- Then another breakaway attempt as the Flames were generous hosts to their guests.
- Okay. First intermission coaching picture. I love these pics of the team gathering as a team.
- Second intermission coaching moment and some good looking uniforms.
- A closer look. Did you think I didn’t see this? Coach is petrified of the pranksters on his squad and wonders who is sneaking up on him this time.
- Yes, there were a few of these breakaways in the Lakes Region game.
- This one resulted in a goal for the Lakers after a nice move.
- So Travis did get some good practice on defending breakaways and penalty shot type chances.
- #31 on our scorecards, but #1 in our hearts, Travis makes the save.
- The Flames had some breakaway chances too.
- Then sometimes total chaos breaks out in the crease.
- This turned out to be a pretty amazing save, only because Cam decided to even the odds by shooting from his knees.
- Love the pic. The Flames swarm Travis after completing a hard fought 3-2 win over Lakes Region.
Flames 1 – Capitals 5
Later in the afternoon, Concord came to town. In a non-league game, with 15 minute periods instead of the normal 12 minute frames in GSL play, it was another good test for the 2010 Flames. Concord is definitely the better team and this is how players and teams get better, they have to play better competition. The Flames battled tough, and lost 5-1 in the end. Even so, there were successes, and there were lessons. The Flames will be better for it if their approach is about learning together as a team and executing the pace and the space of the game. They do play hard until the end, even if they’ve already run out of gas, and that’s a good thing.
- Caleb gets into his sprinter’s stance with Travis looking on.
- Once in awhile, I just have to take a picture of this kid for no real reason.
- Jacob throws a shot on net with Soucy in support.
- Travis gobbles up this shot against Concord.
- Jax is like, “Nice form Travie Baby. That’s a cool move”.
- Logan, Jax, Peartree, and Cam establish a perimeter around Travis.
- Fin covers the near side while Travis plays a game of catch with the puck.
- “Not too long ago, we were waaaay back there in our skills and abilities. We have come so far. Keep working hard and we will go far.”
- The Flames retreat but not in time to prevent this puck from squeaking by.
- Caleb and Teddy pull the old ‘made you look’ with a quick shot on net.
- The misdirection worked and the goalie couldn’t get back to the puck, but it trickled just wide of the net.
- Sean uses his speed to turn the corner, like running the giant slalom.
