The Flames started the new year with two road games on Saturday, to be followed by two more road games on Sunday. Manchester made their way to Proctor Academy on a rainy, foggy, winter morning to play a game against Kearsarge. The Flames got out of town with a 5-0 win and were on their way to Hudson for an afternoon battle to a tie.
Here are some pictures from Saturday morning’s game at Proctor Academy against Kearsarge in a 5-0 win for the Flames. Click on what you want to see and then click again to enlarge and zoom in. It’s worth it! Enjoy!
I love our flag. Our colors. Great way to start this gallery, the red, the white, and the blue.
Logan got things started with some light stretching and this gem of a move, the one-leg backhand swivel.
In this moment the Flames faced each other which really messed with the opponent. In other news, Vermont is shown in actual size.
This is Garrett. Garrett is intense. Don’t mess with Garrett.
Garrett doesn’t have time to look up and say, “Hey look, one hand!” But I am sure he was thinking it.
Logan lunges for the puck and Gavin thinks, “Those are some good looking skates. When I grow out of mine, I have to check these out.”
Here Finley centers the puck on a nice play. Meanwhile I am content with the picket fence symmetry along the boards.
First, it’s a face-off photo. Second, Gavin is in the greatest of all face-off stances, ‘The Sumo’. Third, Ian has to be thinking, “That’s odd. I can’t say that I believed I would ever see that, here.”
1st quarter Super Bowl ad: Hi, my name is Gavin Petrie and if Disney is ever looking to cast an ice skating, hockey playing, cool kid; well check my resume.
More symmetry. Even the puck is in line.
Garrett lines up his birdie putt while Logan thinks it looks good from there.
If this were a ‘scratch ‘n’ listen’ photo, you would hear coaches calmly yelling, “GET BACK! GET BACK!”
Travis reacts like the cookie monster when he spots a cookie and lunges toward the puck.
Travis makes the save and all is well in Flames land.
Team huddle broken down. Coach Nick lays down some truth. Travis mutters, “This doesn’t even apply to me”. Coach Scott thinks, “Did I leave the iron on? No, that’s absurd, I don’t have an iron.” Coach Austin is like, “Scott, get a hold of yourself! Did you see how many titles they have won here?”
Pretty cool. Freezing, actually. But 9-year-olds playing hockey on historic prep school ice.
1 of 3: Drew breaks through the defense and gives the goalie a look like he has no idea what is coming for him.
2 of 3: Drew jams on the brakes and shoots just before reaching the goalie.
3 of 3: Drew watches as the puck crosses the goal line giving the Flames a 3-0 lead.
Ian gets a shot behind the goalie but the defense makes the save for Kearsarge.
Jordan skates into view. I also notice that goalie pads are mildly wider than the player’s actual legs.
Drew skated over to me and asked if I had a picture of his goal. Then he said, “Watch this.” I watched. Nice.
This is from a commercial I saw the other day. The voice-over says, “I am the Mighty Fin, master of my edges.”
Ian feels the pressure and lets a shot go a tad early. After the game I asked about this and he said, “I toy with meteorology, and I could feel the low pressure over the Northeast.” I asked no further questions.
I went to a business conference recently and saw this picture on a business card that many folks were admiring. When I picked up the card it simply read, Owner/Founder James “Make My Day” Lawler. “Go ahead”
This is Teddy “Long string” Beal.
Teddy shoots in traffic and somehow this shot got under and past the goalie, into the net.
Captain Colby and the hooded guy behind him. Jordan is skating too fast to properly contain in a single frame.
Colby looks up and thinks, “Seriously!?!? How much further is it? This rink CANNOT be regulation.”
Ian shoots and salutes, showing off his blue tape to recognize law enforcement. Well done Ian.
Finley takes a face-off and tells her opponent, “Hold up! Watch this. I saw this on YouTube, I can dribble the puck with my stick, like a basketball.”
1st score of the second half Super Bowl ad: Hi, my name is Gavin Petrie and if Disney hasn’t already signed me, I am out here working my backside off; have your people contact my people.
Face-off stances: Travis, I got nothing. Logan, “Let’s go! We play in Hudson this afternoon.” Finley power stance to win the draw. Drew, “I can get wider and stronger than that.” Gavin (Face-off stance Hall of Famer) classic Sumo stance, brilliant.
Fin obliges my request to shoot from this angle so I could capture the flight of a wax free puck. Thank you.
Logan pulls off one of the more rare moves never seen before in hockey, called simply, “The Auger.” Well done. Auger definition: any of various tools or devices with a helical shaft or part that are used for boring holes (as in wood, soil, or ice)
Some say that Simon doesn’t carry the weight he used to, but when Simon says, “Look to your right”. You decide.
Jax asks, “Have you ever heard the expression I’m taking my puck and going home? Me either. I’m outta here.”
9×11=99. 66, “I’m just here to spray some snow.”
#7 for Kearsarge is like, “C’mon! How many of you are there?” Four Flames.
Travis posted a shutout for the Flames. He made this electrifying save after his teammates (all around him) aroused him from a nap, but hey, a save is a save. Truth be told, I constantly heckle Travis and once in awhile he’ll give me a heads up that he’s about to make a save. Thanks man.
