This weekend the 2010 Flames ran into a tough pair of much improved Jr. Terrier teams (black and red), losing both games. In between though, the Flames took out their frustration by punching their offense into gear against the Northern Cyclones.
One of the beauties in age 9 and 10 youth hockey, to me, is watching all the teams improve as the season goes on. I enjoy seeing kids get better at sports, getting better at their passions. Truthfully, I hope that it’s that simple for all of these kids across all of the teams. I know it isn’t, but I wish it were.
The Jr. Terriers won both of their games against the Flames over the weekend. On Sunday morning, the Flames were no match for the speed and skill impressed on them out of the gate by the Terriers. They found themselves down 4-0 in under four minutes. From there, the Flames did pick up the pace and skated with much more intensity even though they had no chance of getting back into the game. They did not quit on themselves.
On Saturday afternoon, the Flames did get the offense going and were able to cash in on numerous opportunities against the Cyclones. There has been much progress. There is so much yet to learn. There is so much fun still to be had.

- Colby and Ian look on as Travis makes a positional save.
- The puck is in the net after Austin breaks in all alone.
- This shot gets away. Drew was mic’d up and was quoted, “That puck is high, it’s far, and it’s out of here!”
- Austin unleashes a long drive off of the tee.
- Garrett keeps the puck moving from the left point.
- That magical moment when the goalie and the shooter each seize up their options.

- Garrett gets another shot down low at West Side Arena.
- No, Jordan is not just daydreaming, he’s following the flight of the puck. It’s up there.
- Jordan has a chance at a backhand shot against the Cyclones at JFK.
- The illusionist, Jordan, defies logic with a stick of multiple colors, while wearing a goalies trapper glove just because he can. Behind the net, the official “Jig” competition started and the Cyclones jumped to an early lead.
- Just another face-off photo of the Flames.
- The Flames had plenty to celebrate on Saturday at West Side Arena.
