The 2010 Flames won a game on the road and lost a game at home, well kind of home. It was one up one down for the weekend. They are learning more every time they are on the ice.
One of the great things about this 2010 Flames team is that they are in a constant state of learning. They are learning the game, honing their skills, and facing the dynamics various personalities and maturity levels. Another great thing is that this team is surrounded by some great people and a wonderful support group. Not a group that will figure out life for these kids, but a group that will love and nurture while allowing the kids the chance to grow and figure things out for themselves.

With the Flames skating one step behind, they reached with their sticks where skating strides came up short, and they took penalties. The 2010 Flames took 9 penalties in the game and allowed two power play goals while curtailing their own efforts to come back in the game.
The Flames did get a single goal in the second period and another one in the final period, but they were not able to dig out of the hole they found themselves in after one period. On the power play, the 2010 Flames scored a beautiful goal with passing and puck movement to cut the lead to 3-1. That score would hold through two periods.
The Crimson added a 4-on-3 power play goal early in the 3rd period and that really broke the Flames’ backs. Although they did score to make the score, 4-2 several minutes later. The Flames worked the puck up the ice with some effort and got a shot, a good bounce, and a well aimed finish into the top corner. That was it though, 4-2 final.
Saturday, December 10, 2022. Pingree Rink .
Score by period:
Shamrocks Green: 01 – 01 – 00 = 02
Flames: 01 – 01 – 01 = 03
Flames goals in order:
- Trying to get the puck deep, McGee pushes the puck toward the corner. Beal took the puck, hard to the middle and flipped a shot over the goalie’s shoulder, for a 1-0 lead. Beal from McGee.
- Soucy lost the puck coming out of the D-zone but Booth picked it up and rushed up ice with the puck. Booth lost the puck in traffic in the O-zone but right onto the long reach of Ouellette. Ouellette fired the puck into the net to tie the game, 2-2. Ouellette from Booth and Soucy.
- Play of the game: The Flames were shorthanded with less than 3 minutes to play in a tie game. St. Pierre secured the puck in the defensive end and he strategically threw the puck off of the boards and out to center ice so it wouldn’t be icing. At the same time, Giampa shifted through his gears to reach the puck while getting behind the defense. Giampa finished the play with what turned out to be the game-winning-goal. Awesome play! Giampa from St. Pierre.
Sunday, December 11, 2022. JFK Memorial Coliseum.
Score by period:
Minuteman Flames: 01 – 04 – 00 = 05
Flames: 00 – 01 – 01 = 02
- Soucy scores on the backhand when the MM Flames defender swiped the puck into the net on Soucy’s shot. McCain tipped the puck to Soucy as they tagged up onside, and Soucy skated in and shot. Soucy from McCain.
- McGee took the puck by the goal line and turned to his forehand and fired a shot into the net. The play was set up when a defender fell down and Kaveney ripped a shot from left-wing and the goalie couldn’t control it. McGee from Kaveney. It was the only goal of the final period.

Ever since Lake Placid the 2010 Flames have battled with sickness here and there. The team has largely avoided a wide spread sickness, but players have missed some games. This team is a hard working team that is still learning the flow and structure of the game while honing personal skills. They are trying to use these skills in a framework or teamwork and every time they miss a player for a game it almost seems like they are down 2 or 3 players. It could just be me.
Rosenbeck missed one game in net while trying to get well and then he played on Sunday. Ingalls played the whole game on Saturday and the Flames were able to win. These two goaltenders push each other to be better because there’s always another kid wearing big pads waiting to play if something goes awry for the other goaltender.
The Flames get back to the ice this weekend with a game at JFK on Saturday and a road game down at Skate 3 on Sunday. We will continue to follow their progress right here.
