Well, it’s officially that time of the year when hockey season begins. Nights and weekends fill up with trips to frozen ice rinks all over New England. New regimens kick in over the first several weeks, and most of them end up feeling quite familiar.
But really, like most things in life, you get out of it what you put into it. For my money, the more that the focus remains on the kids and not mom or dad, or some other grown up laden agenda, the better the experience for all. I thank the good Lord often for growing up in a time and within a family where I wasn’t labored over constantly. Here’s to liberty and freedom. Such things are not to be taken for granted, nor should they be glazed over because each liberty, and every freedom should be noticed, and celebrated.
So, yesterday at JFK, the Flames probably didn’t have their best team energy for the game. I am guessing that time will confirm this. Then again, the 2010 Flames played a feisty Northern Cyclones team that skated with high energy and won most races to pucks and open spaces over the course of the game. The Flames lost the game, 6-3. It was a good test and a reminder that it’ll take their best effort and a polished, structured game to get wins in the league this season. As it should be.
I must admit that I did find myself watching the action more than capturing it with my camera during play. Here are a baker’s dozen (including the featured image) worth of pictures from the action at JFK yesterday. Please enjoy. Feel free to click on any of the pictures and zoom in for a better look at details. There is much to see.
- Soucy has been red hot to start the season. Here he takes an offensive zone face-off.
- G-Dub smacks a puck through traffic and into the net for the first goal of the game.
- The ghost of F. Scott Fitzgerald made an appearance at JFK yesterday wearing number 83.
- Lightning McGee, sometimes confused with Lightning McQueen, turns the corner against the Cyclones.
- The Beal Deal lets a shot fly against the Cyclones.
- The Flames were beaten down the ice but Will was there to make sure the Cyclones didn’t add to their lead.
- McGee and Gillies give ‘Panitz! at the Disco’ a lane to shoot through.
- Panitz keeps his eye on the task at hand, clear the puck.
- F. Scott Fitzy made the first pass from the neutral zone to Soucy who broke into the O-zone.
- Soucy then fed a gorgeous pass across to Cam “Say it ain’t” Desruisseaux for the one-timer goal for the Flames.

Logan “The Freight Train” McCain embraces the meet and greet segment of yesterday’s contest. In the category of, “It’s better to be lucky than good”, I was able to capture the reverse angle of this play in one picture.
