2023-2024 Flames Profiles – 2010 Flames

It’s the roster. They’re our kids. The ones we love and the ones we drive the miles for.

They all measure up whether we know it or not, remember, we aren’t the ones.

They wear the numbers on the line, if we did anything different, it would only be more.

We should give them space and take them home, odors, and all the gear, our loves, our sons.

Moms carried them long before any sticks and hockey bags, once a life, always a life.

Dads fill with pride watching them play, and the things we say only stick in thirds.

We sit in a nowhere rink in the cold, our love runs warm, and the kids never looked so alive.

Whistles, shouts, high fives, genuines smiles, and a great big hug mean more than words.

Taking in the kids at play on fields of green from a comfy chair, moves to cold seats near the ice.

Our summers last 60 days then move indoors and they end long before the autumnal equinox.

Teammates, new and old, gather to meet or rejoin, and we hope they all get along real nice.

The scenes unfold, and then the chat, I looked everywhere but can’t find my kids’ socks.

The games are played, skills practiced in between, a discerning eye notices subtle tendencies.

Weeks fly by faster than the miles piling up, and we see lots, but do we ever really know.

What are these kids really like, and are they comfortable showing sides that one seldom sees.

So lets us learn, let us love, let us nurture, for one, for all, for life needs an environment to grow.

Here is the 2023-2024 Flames Roster. The team is listed in numerical order. There are people who could create something much more spectacular and visually appealing than I. But, here is our 2010 Flames team, with a lot of help from Nichole Mooney and the rest of our hockey families.

I am a Dad. I am a fan. I love these kids. I would do anything to keep them from harm, or to lift them up. But honestly, they lift me up more times than I can count. Watching our kids play should be fun, not a 90 minute challenge to scrutinize from a 20/20 vision of the years they haven’t lived yet. Remember, we were kids, and our favorite times were play times. Let them play. It’s all about the kids. Enjoy.

My happiest of places, anywhere when the gang’s all here. 2014.

There you have it, the 2023-2024 Flames, the 2010 version. We are a mix of 2010’s and 2011’s, and it’s a good mix. The coaching staff loves this team, and the team loves to play for the coaches. It should also be noted, no, actually it should be accentuated, that these kids are getting better and better.

I would rather have a group of kids that love to show up and play, that are coachable, and have no idea when to quit, than a group of x’s and o’s junkies that hate every minute of it. These kids work hard and love playing together. They are a blast to cheer for, and I can’t want the very best for them more than I do.

I just get tag along for the ride.

The 1st Annual Coaches vs. Coaches Winter Classic Fundraising Game. The proceeds from the MRYHA Family Skate (before the game) and the game itself went to the MRYHA Assistance Fund. The fund helps MRYHA families in need and allows more kids to have access to hockey and team sports.

Countless hours of my life have been spent in the tracking of numbers while loving the sports and players that produce them.

Either way, “It’s a great day for hockey” ~ the late “Badger” Bob Johnson.

“We should be dreaming. We grew up as kids having dreams, but now we’re too sophisticated as adults, as a nation. We stopped dreaming. We should always have dreams.” ~ the late Herb Brooks.
“To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. Number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it: If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.” ~ Jim Valvano on how to live life, during his ESPY speech.
“I started writing sports stories 20 years ago. I still do. I write because somewhere, in some game, a kid might be having the time of his or her life. That’s awesome to think about. It’s all about the kids.” ~ Steve Beal Sr.
