Hockey: Portsmouth-Newmarket 1 at Goffstown 3

From the campus of St. Anselm College –

Thanks to mother nature, the Goffstown High School Grizzlies hockey team opened the 2017-2018 hockey season at home, with a 3-1 win over the visiting Portsmouth-Newmarket Clipper Mules. Not much came easy for the home team, as Portsmouth-Newmarket (Ports-New) was feisty, and challenged every chance that they could.

The Show Must Go On

The Ghosts of Christmas Eve, Best Of TSO And More 2017

Oh my, where do I start? I guess I start with recognizing the fact that it has been several months since the last time that I really sat down to write something, to create, to formulate frames, thoughts, and ideas through the use of words.

Then I suppose I should include the fact that I went to see The Ghosts of Christmas Eve, The Best of TSO and More Tour 2017 on Saturday, November 25th in Manchester, NH. As often happens with me when I listen to these folks, even while I was sitting there at the venue, watching both the afternoon and evening shows, I had words, ideas, lyrics, and emotions I wanted to capture, all swirling in my head.

United We Stand

I am assuming that most of you have at least 10-12 minutes today or tomorrow to read through news articles, social media posts, and commentary regarding the various protests and stances surrounding our National Anthem and the American Flag.

“I don’t want her to be forgotten”

It’s been more than a year wince Wendy Tefft died. I am no detective and only have access to the same information that everyone else has access to. But for some 380 days now, I have wondered just how many questions are there left to answer regarding her death.

Hummingbird Hawk-Moth

This was a 19-second video that I took with my phone yesterday. I slowed it down to half speed. It’s a Hummingbird Hawk-Moth. I know it’s not the best quality, but kind of cool to…

2017 Quality Raised Garden Beds

So, an innocent conversation with friends, about the possibility of having raised garden beds and whether they could place one on the side of a hill, turned into my latest woodworking project. It all started with manufacturing the sides and ends by cutting and combining boards to get walls that were 12.5″ deep. Then some pilot holes, plastic lining (last year’s backyard ice rink), some weed block, support for the corners, and a 3 1/2″ lip all the way around (to lean on or sit on), and I had a finished product.

It’s Been a Year Dad: Lessen or Lesson

May, 2017 Lessen or Lesson:

It’s been a year now, 12 whole months since a miraculous life here on earth expired. I remember the weeks leading to the day that we all knew would come sometime. There was so much support, many prayers and efforts, regardless of being tired. Amid the details though, it wasn’t too difficult, a beautiful love, to find.

2017 Hockey Nationals – Flames, Avalanche Represent NH

Well, the results are in, and the Nationals are over with. New Hampshire high school hockey was pretty well represented in Michigan and also in Texas. The New Hampshire Avalanche 18U and the Manchester Flames 16U teams both made the trip to their respective Tier II National Championship tournaments. I purchased a subscription to HockeyTV so that I could watch both teams play.

NHIAA Hockey: Div. II Final: Bow Hands Keene First Loss, 4-2

SNHU arena, Manchester, NH – 03/11/17

#2 Bow (17-2-1) vs. #1 Keene (18-0) – Division II Championship

Mettlesome and gritty are a pair of words that come to mind when I look to describe the Bow Falcons in their game this afternoon. See, Bow entered the tournament as the #2 seed, and they owned an awesome regular season record of 15-2-1. As these kind of things often work themselves out, the pair of losses for Bow came at the hands of this afternoon’s opponent, the Keene BlackBirds. Bow lost to Keene 3-0 just before Christmas, and then they lost again, 5-3 in mid-February. In today’s Division II State Championship game, the #1 BlackBirds (18-0) looked to remain undefeated, and cap their perfect season with their first ever hockey title. Though, as we have learned over the years, in sports, and in rivalries, it is very difficult to beat a good opponent three straight times, especially in the same season. Today was no different.

NHIAA Hockey: Div. II Semi-Finals, It'll Be 1 vs. 2

The Rinks at Exeter, Exeter, NH – 03/08/17

Mumbled and garbled audio aside, the atmosphere in Exeter was electric. The Bow student section was in place early. The Windham throngs seemed to show up at exactly the same time. Keene packed their side with orange and black. St. Thomas showed their various blues. Before long the seats were full. The areas all around the glass where people were allowed to stand, were accounted for. The crowds for all of the Final Four teams were loud, present, and noticeable. Despite my hometown Grizzlies being absent from the semifinals, it was fun to watch some good high school hockey. Storylines run in every direction when there are a few of us, or more, gathered at events like these. Then, there comes the time when the game is played, and legends are born.
