Happy Birthday Mom!
Happy Birthday Mom! I am glad that God allowed me to be born into our family. I am so glad I got to grow up with you mom. I am my mother’s son, and I…

I don’t know how valuable $50 million is, but I do know that it wouldn’t have bought any more of the stuff I have been writing about. I would take the extra 50 years.
I know the Little Drummer Boy doesn’t qualify as a Christmas hymn but I am including it in my series here. Based on the fact that several versions of this song appear in my YouTube…
Theodore gets a moment to himself and enjoys some coloring. Or scribbling is really more like it. Either way, he was on his own, on the floor, lying on his belly, and free to kick…
It was just a little moment. Maybe it lasted for a minute or two. The twins on their tip-toes, stretching instinctively to get the highest vantage point possible. Who teaches them that? They both knew that as…
I just brought our 9 foot Frasier Fir Christmas tree into the house this evening. I think it’s a beautiful tree, and once it falls, I think it will even look better. I can tell…
Most mornings at our house consist of the twins and I hanging out in the family room. There are plenty of toys to play with, books to read through, snacks nearby for dad to prepare,…
Once again I received a simple email from my mother and it prompted a post to my blog. It seems that emails from mom have this tendency. I love it mom, don’t stop sending them…
This post is for my brother Pete. It’s about a simple, short song and it is one of my Christmas favorites. Old Toy Trains as sung by Roger Miller. When I hear this song it…
On November 20th the twins reached the 19 month old mark. I know parents use months as the measurement for age until kids are roughly 2 years old, but it just seems to work that…
I took the twins to see my parents again today. We had no agenda and nothing to accomplish. We just spent time together. As it should be. The twins love to see Grampy and Grammy…
My mom sent me an email recently that contained the quotes I have shared below. I am sure we all have seen something like this go around on email over the years. I read through…
I know this is late according to the calendar. Is it ever late to be thankful? I guess there are times when it would be. Hopefully this isn’t one of them. Happy Thanksgiving in my…
This will be short and quick as I get ready to head out the door. I was up from 2am until 4am this morning, welcoming my son Ryan home. His flight didn’t land until almost…
A few days ago I wrote a post called “The first time” and it was a short story about my first time seeing the Trans-Siberian Orchestra in concert. I have included that post here and…
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Beautiful.
Upon seeing the Winter 2011 Tour visit Manchester this year, I have spent a lot of time, maybe too much time, reflecting on my experiences with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I can’t help but return to…
Life flies by. Time passes before my mind can catch up. My conscious mind reveals the reality that already was. And I am left wondering where did those hours go. It never seems to slow…
This is the latest entry in my Sunday Series of posts to my blog. In the spirit of Veteran’s Day and also to touch on some of my favorite hymns, I thought this one belonged.…
After reading several articles, looking at many touching pictures, and watching a couple of heart-wrenching videos yesterday, I am still remembering our armed forces. There are countless stories that touch us all deeply. There are…
I woke up in the middle of the night earlier this week with the shell of this poem. Somehow I think it was better at 3am in the dark, but I hope you enjoy. It’s…
I thought I would throw a couple of pictures of the twins in here today. Theodore loves to swing at Grammy’s. If he could take his naps in the swing he probably would. Taken with…
Looking ahead to tomorrow I will have a Veteran’s Day themed post. I have thought on this often over the years, and I hope you will enjoy it. I have always liked the Veteran’s Day…
Yesterday I made my weekly visit to my parents’ house. I always bring the twins with me and we visit. I love the time with my parents. I want the twins to know their grandparents,…
A picture is worth a thousand words. My beautiful wife and my beautiful daughter. Enough said.
Maybe it’s just me, but, doesn’t it often seem like the degree to which we go after certain things in life, the things we would have battled our parents over, or defend to the hilt…
I always pictured the hill far away, with the cross standing there for all to see. The cross there was never as finished as the ones seen in churches everywhere. The one I picture is crude, barely a cross, just enough to get the job done by those who put our Lord there to die. The picture in my mind is a sacred place where a stand was taken for all of us, past, present, and future. This space is near and dear to my heart, as without it we are all lost.
I think on the things we gather, the achievements we garner, the trophies we win, the awards bestowed upon us while we are here on earth. I can still hear my grandfather say “it’s all going to burn” as it relates to earthly possessions. Whether you believe or not, the possessions we have here on earth matter not once we are gone.
This is another topic suggested by Scott Berkun, “Make a list of things you wish you had said.” Once again I am going to put my own spin on this. I may come up with…
I am thankful we have our power back. The generator performed exactly as we had hoped it would. It allowed us to stay in our own home, with heat, hot water, and the comforts of…
Were it not for God’s Amazing Grace I would probably not be here to write this blog, or to do anything else for that matter. This is yet another heart wrenching, tear jerking hymn from…
Come back tomorrow for the 3rd installment of my Sunday Series. Tomorrow I touch on the hymn, Amazing Grace, and it’s meaning to me. Thank you for checking out 1inawesomewonder.
This is not uncommon at our house. We get deer in the yard all the time. Somehow I never get tired of it though. I love wildlife and deer are among my favorites. Moose are…
Recently I overheard a conversation that was based on what I call, ‘in the box thinking’. My definition of ‘In the box thinking’ is expecting an outcome to materialize according to what you think should…
