2010 Flames – Despite The Battle The Tie Seems Right

The 2010 Flames traveled to West Newton, Mass. on a gorgeous autumn Saturday to play the Crimson. The game ended in a 2-2 tie after a very physical contest from start to finish. Goals were at a premium in this game, and a 2-2 tie seems right. I say the tie seems right because in hindsight, and regardless of the scoreboard, it did not appear to me that either team did quite enough to outscore the other.

three for three

2010 Flames – Three for Three

The 2010 Flames played three games over the weekend, and they went three for three. Earning three wins. They started in Wilmington, Mass. with a 7-6 win, a wild affair before playing a home game later on Saturday evening. The Flames won their home game and then again on the road at Concord (NH) on Sunday afternoon. The win made for a 3-game sweep of the weekend for the 2010 Flames.

In the win column

2010 Flames – In The Win Column

The Manchester Flames, the 2010 version, went to Marlborough, Mass. to play their first road game of the season against the Minuteman Flames (MM Flames) on Sunday afternoon. And the 2010 Flames earned their first ‘W’ in the win column with a complete team effort, 3-1 victory over a very good MM Flames team.

2010 Flames – All Tied Up

All tied up it began, and so it ended. After an opening weekend that resulted in a pair of losses, both being good games, time passed and led to the second weekend of hockey. There was only one game this weekend, a home game against the Monarchs. The Monarchs hail from Tri-Town Arena which is just about 6 miles (as the crow flies) north of the Flames home rink at West Side Arena. These teams are generally pretty familiar with one another.

West 2022 – Last Evening in Badlands NP

Last Evening in Badlands NP

After my searing hike up Saddle Pass and around the loop trail, and a quick visit to Wall Drug, I returned for my final evening in Badlands National Park. Also, I had decided on doing a couple more hikes, albeit very short hikes.

West 2022 – Badlands Intro

Badlands Intro

I was on my own. On the road. My schedule. I could go where I wanted when I wanted to. I was out west and I was there to explore. After taking a left at Minnesota, I eventually drove into Wall, SD to check into my room and take a deep breath. I had covered more than 2,030 miles in two-plus days. I was tired but the lure of the next adventure kept me in motion.

Goffstown Hockey 2021-2022: The Love Runs Out

Perhaps, as we walk quickly away from another season that our sons and daughters played,

we should pause for perspective, all the focus on them, and for our enjoyment, the prices they paid.

We all entered these overlapping eras the same way, from the back door, before dawn on a late November morn,

but did you get through the months that followed unmarked by the passion? Love of the game reborn.

Was all of this just another drive-thru moment, capture a picture here and there, passing by, out and about?

Or did you find a place to dig in, a connection to all-time, to make it better before the love runs out?

NHIAA Hockey Tournament Brackets Finals 2022

Well folks, the time has come for some high school playoff hockey here in New Hampshire. There are three divisions in NH high school boys hockey and all three brackets are shown below. There is one division in NH high school girls hockey and that bracket is here too. Please check back to the school’s websites to make sure of times, bus departure times, and any other details that may be necessary.

Tournament Hockey: Goffstown 2 at Portsmouth-Newmarket 3 (OT)

Grizzlies Go Down, But Not Without A Fight

Goffstown played their way to a 9-8-1 record in the regular season. Honestly, I don’t know of anyone who would have predicted Goffstown to win 9 games, or even to finish in the top six in the Division II standings. Yet, they did it, earning a #6 seed in the post-season. They played a very good Portsmouth-Newmarket team in the Quarterfinal on Saturday.

Hockey: Goffstown 2 vs. Winnacunnet 6

Goffstown Can’t Solve the Warriors; Leave Their Post-Season Fate to Others

For the last home game of Goffstown’s season they had their best crowd of the year. They raised well over $200 for the NH Food Bank, and collected more than 10 bags of canned goods and food. They also played the Winnacunnet Warriors but were not able to get the four points needed in the standings. The Warriors have been playing excellent hockey since the Grizzlies saw them back in early January.

Hockey: Goffstown 4 vs. Nashua North-Souhegan 1

Grizzlies Rebound With Team Effort In 4-1 Win

I described much of the first half of this game as Goffstown playing not to lose. Almost like they were waiting for the other shoe to drop. They powered through and played like a team that had each other’s backs, and that served them well. The Grizzlies were able to add a pair of third period goals and skate to a solid, 4-1 win.
