Deer Delay – Last day of June, 2025.
After work on Monday afternoon, I went down to Londonderry to cut some grass. I was at Mom’s, the house and yard that I grew up in.
Mom had company coming in for separate overnight stays during this week and I wanted to clean up the yard a little bit. It was a warm, sunny afternoon, the last day of June. I still can’t believe we are now into July.
Anyway, I was ready to mow when Mom spotted something behind me over my shoulder as I came out of the garage. It was a fawn on top of the hill in the backyard.
One fawn led to another fawn, and then ultimately, Momma doe.
As the fawns walked, loped, jumped, and ran, they covered much of the yard I was intending to mow.
Momma doe came over the hill to the yard to make sure her twins were safe. Safe from the road, safe from Mom and me sitting at the picnic table.

We watched, still and quiet. The deer roamed, grazed, and played. This went on for more than half an hour.
We just enjoyed the scene playing out on the green grass around us. Then, finally, the deer delay was over and it was time to get to work.
