Extra Time Win Over Exeter

Extra Time Win Over Exeter – December 27, 2025 – JFK Memorial Coliseum.

Brian C. Stone Memorial Christmas Tournament

– Goffstown Grizzlies Hockey –

I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith!

Extra time win over Exeter. Goffstown led, then trailed, then rallied to tie the game, and then both teams were scoreless through overtime. This all led to a shootout, which the Goffstown Grizzlies Hockey team ultimately won. Merry Christmas to all of us.

Before the game, my friend, Phil and I, were able to volunteer through the Grappone volunteering program. Grappone helps raise funds for non-profit organizations with employees doing actual ‘boots on the ground’ work to help the organization. We had a lot of fun welcoming people to JFK Memorial Coliseum for tournament games, running the 50/50 raffle, playing information booth attendants, and various other tasks.

December 27 –

Cam Desruisseaux scored the first two goals of his high school career, on the same shift, to grab a 2-0 lead for the Grizzlies. Cam Fratus recorded the first two assists of his career on that same shift. Jaden Booth also snagged his first career assist on the first goal of the game.

The Grizzlies took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Goffstown built a 3-1 lead in the second period but that did not last too long. One-hundred forty-four seconds into the final period, Exeter had taken a 4-3 lead.

The Blue Hawks began to expose the area out in front of Kyle Bennett who was in net for Goffstown. Four of the next five goals were scored by Exeter and all of them were from open space in front of the net.

The Grizzlies slid a power play goal in the mix which gave them a 3-1 lead. Then Goffstown had to rally late to tie the game, and they did.

The 3-minute overtime was scoreless with Goffstown getting the only two shots on goal in the OT. This brought the game to a shootout to decide the matter.

Goffstown ended up getting the victory in rather dramatic fashion as shootouts bring that kind of excitement to a game’s finish. See the goal descriptions below.

The Goffstown Grizzlies Hockey team took an early lead which was a nice change after digging such a deep hole a day earlier. They scored on the power play but they couldn’t protect the slot for most of the game, and that cost them four goals and the lead. They continued to compete and tied the game less than a minute left.

An OT and three shootout attempts capped their ‘compete’ for the day, and it earned them an extra time win over Exeter.

The win moved Goffstown into the 5th place game where they will face Manchester on Sunday afternoon at 4pm.

Games five, six, and seven are on the three days following Christmas. The Goffstown Grizzlies Hockey team will play in the Brian C. Stone Memorial Christmas Tournament again this year. All games are played at JFK Memorial Coliseum in Manchester, NH.

Here we go.

    1. 1st 1:06 – Goffstown Grizzlies – Even – Cam Desruisseaux from Cam Fratus and Jaden Booth. Booth ripped a shot from the point which hit traffic in front. Fratus captured the loose puck and made a pass to Desruisseaux for the goal. Nice play. 1-0.
    2. 1st 2:22 – Goffstown Grizzlies – Even – Cam Desruisseaux from Connor Bernard and Cam Fratus. Bernard got the puck to Fratus who wrapped the puck deep into the offensive zone. The puck was rounding the corner when it took an odd (typical for JFK) bounce out of the corner. The puck somehow eluded the Exeter defense and slid past the post from behind the net and into the top of the crease. Desruisseaux was skating into the area as the puck suddenly appeared in front of the Exeter goaltender, and he slammed it through the five-hole for the goal. 2-0.
    3. 2nd 1:43 – Exeter Blue Hawks – Even – Cam Knowles scored on a backhander as he found himself all alone in front of the net. The goal was set up by Teddy Farnham and Tate LoPriore. 2-1.
    4. 2nd 2:37 – Goffstown Grizzlies – PPG – Owen St. Onge from Zack Tarrier and Jackson Horne. Horne retrieved the clearing effort from the Blue Hawks back in his own end. He whipped a pass off the side wall at center ice, and Tarrier did a masterful job of controlling the carom and moving into the O zone. He laid a pass out in front of the net to open space. St. Onge extended his stick, just getting a piece of the puck and changing its direction. The slight alteration was enough to slip through the goalie’s pads and into the net. PPG. 3-1.
    5. 2nd 9:04 – Exeter Blue Hawks – Even – Quin Wilbur from Nolan Iacobucci and Ronan Wilbur. The Blue Hawks had 3 players in front of the net to Goffstown’s one center. The Blue Hawks combined for the goal. 3-2.
    6. 3rd 1:42 – Exeter Blue Hawks – Even – Quin Wilbur from Luke Caron. Again, the Exeter offensive attack had a 3-on-1 advantage low in the slot and they cashed it in for the tying goal. 3-3.
    7. 3rd 2:24 – Exeter Blue Hawks – Even – Cam Knowles from Tate LoPriore and Sean Haugh. Exeter moved the puck around the zone and LoPriore set up Knowles in the slot with a perfect pass. AJ Tramontozzi was alone in front of Bennett. He tried to get in the shooting lane but the puck got through, and behind Bennett for the go-ahead goal. 4-3.
    8. 3rd 14:25 – Goffstown Grizzlies – Extra Attacker – Owen St. Onge from Gavin Matatall and AJ Hill. With the extra attacker on the ice, Hill stepped into a shot from the left point. The puck seemed to hit just about everyone on the ice. Matatall threw the puck back to the middle and St. Onge was there for a clean shot and the tying goal. Great effort! 4-4.
    9. OT – No Scoring.
    10. Shootout – Goffstown Grizzlies – Owen St. Onge. No goal.
    11. Shootout – Exeter Blue Hawks – Cam Knowles. No goal.
    12. Shootout – Goffstown Grizzlies – Van Eames goal on the backhand. 1st Career Goal.
    13. Shootout – Exeter Blue Hawks – Ronan Wilbur. No goal.
    14. Shootout – Goffstown Grizzlies – Zack Tarrier hits his spot, goal. Game-Winning-Goal.

Remembering Jen Cheney…

The Jen Cheney Memorial Scholarship and Sportsmanship Award (awarded each season)

(Photo © by 1inawesomewonder 2025).

As a sixteen-year-old junior, Jen was a manager for the very first Goffstown Grizzlies hockey team in the 1999-2000 club season. Her infectious smile and friendly nature was a joy for everyone fortunate to know her. Jen is now our eternal team angel. The spirit of Jen lives on…our team champions an angel memorial patch sewn to each uniform jersey.

On Thursday, May 18th, 2000, Jen was killed by a drunk driver. We are dedicated to memorialize Jen’s life with the Jen Cheney Memorial Scholarship and Sportsmanship Award. But we also want to deliver a message from our team angel… simply…if you choose to drink, don’t drive.

The thoughts and opinions expressed here are those of the individual contributors, mostly mine. They do not necessarily reflect the views of the leagues, schools, coaches, players, or characters listed in any of these blog posts. Or, maybe they do. Either way, you would have to ask them directly.

Either way I agree with this statement from a great hockey coach, “It’s a great day for hockey” ~ the late “Badger” Bob Johnson.

“We should be dreaming. We grew up as kids having dreams, but now we’re too sophisticated as adults, as a nation. We stopped dreaming. We should always have dreams.” ~ the late Herb Brooks.

“To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. Number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it: If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.” ~ the late Jim Valvano on how to live life, during his ESPY speech.

“I started writing sports stories 20 years ago. I still do. I write because somewhere, in some game, a kid might be having the time of his or her life. That’s awesome to think about. It’s all about the kids.” ~ Steve Beal Sr.
