December 31, 2022 – 2022 Winter Classic Saturday:
On Saturday, the 2010 Flames were scheduled to play a pair of games in the 2022 Winter Classic. They opened with a convincing win over the Maine Gladiators-Black squad. Then they played last year’s Winter Classic Runner-Up from Presque Isle, Maine. The Flames dominated puck possession and limited the scoring chances for their opponent in a 3-1 win.
Saturday, December 31, 2022. Tri-Town Arena – Ryan Frew Memorial Rink.
2022 Winter Classic Saturday – Game 2.
Score by period:
Gladiators: 00 – 00 – 00 = 00
Flames: 02 – 05 – 01 = 08
Flames goals in order:
- Sean McGee won an offensive zone face-off over to Teddy Beal who fired a quick shot. The shot never reached the net but caromed off of a pair of defenders before McGee dropped a quick, short pass to Jacob St. Pierre. St. Pierre ripped a shot through some confusion and the puck found the net just inside the near-side post. St. Pierre from McGee and Beal, 1-0.
- Caleb Powers sent a pass from the right point to the left point when Jaden Booth slapped a shot toward the net. The shot hit traffic in front but Teddy Beal grabbed the puck and took a quick shot on net. The shot was saved but sat in front of the goalie for a second. Sean McGee poked the loose puck through the five-hole for a Flames goal. McGee from Beal and Booth, 2-0.
- Logan McCain made a nimble move to keep a clearing attempt in the zone with a backhand play. He circled his new possession for a shot on goal, low and hard. The shot was true but saved with the paddle, where it bounced into the slot where Gavin Petrie was hanging out. Petrie flipped the puck up over the goalie, under the bar, and into the net. Petrie from McCain on the rebound, 3-0.
- Jaden Booth had a head of steam coming out of his own end and he carried the puck to the offensive blue line where he sent a pass through Teddy Beal. Beal retrieved the puck on the right wing boards and instantaneously fired a pass diagonally across the ice and through the slot. The pass ended up right on the stick of Sean McGee for a tap in goal at the edge of the crease. It was a great play. McGee from Beal and Booth, 4-0.
- Cooper Lazzaro read the flow of the play and stepped in to pick off a clearing attempt by Maine. Cooper got to the top of the circle and ripped a shot through some light traffic. The puck skipped past the goaltender for another Flames goal. Lazzaro, unassisted, 5-0.
- Sean McGee tried to win the face-off to Teddy Beal but that didn’t work. McGee still broke up the play and took the puck behind the net. As he skated, he flipped a pass back toward Teddy Beal and Jacob St. Pierre, both of whom were crashing the net. Beal took the pass and chipped it over the goaltender. Beal from McGee, 6-0.
- This Flames goal was scored while they were short-handed, and it was a beauty, eh! Logan McCain flipped a puck from the D-zone out to center ice where Chase Giampa gained possession and flew up the left wing. Giampa dished the puck beautifully back to the slot where Gavin Petrie skated his lane and collected the pass. Petrie put the puck behind the goalie for another gorgeous Flames goal on a play that covered some 175 feet in just a few seconds. Short-handed goal, Petrie from Giampa and McCain, 7-0.
- On the power-play, Jordan Hawkes got delayed behind the net with the puck for a second when Teddy Beal came flying through and grabbed the puck. As Beal continued in a semi-wrap-around attempt at the far post he got a good shot into the goalie’s pads. The puck squirted free and Caleb Powers tapped the puck into the net with all the gusto of a hibernating bear just rousing from a long winter’s sleep. Power play goal, Powers from Beal and Hawkes, 8-0.
- McGee takes a pass from Beal who was on the right wing boards. Beautiful play.
- It’s in the net! A play started by Booth’s burst of speed from the D-zone and a couple of passes.
Saturday, December 31, 2022. Tri-Town Arena – Ryan Frew Memorial Rink.
2022 Winter Classic Saturday – Game 3.
Score by period:
Presque Isle: 00 – 00 – 01 = 01
Flames: 01 – 01 – 01 = 03
Flames goals in order:
- Sean McGee won an offensive zone face-off and Teddy Beal ended up with a shot on goal from the play. The puck bounced and caromed between Beal, Jacob St. Pierre, and the defense before McGee put the puck in the net to get the Flames a 1-0 lead. McGee from St. Pierre and Beal, 1-0.
- This was another goal of the ‘team’ variety. After winning a face-off the puck worked from Jaden Booth, D to D, over to Caleb Powers. Powers got a waist-high shot toward the net that was probably wide. But red-hot Jacob St. Pierre tipped the puck out of mid air with his stick and redirected the puck into the net. Great play. Great goal. St. Pierre from Powers and Booth, 2-0.
- After giving up a power-play goal to Presque Isle in the final period, with the score at 2-1, the Flames answered. Lucas Ouellette and Garrett Warren powered their way up ice with the puck, ever working toward the crease. The puck came to their linemate, Andy Soucy right in front, and he flipped it into the net for the goal that was the final nail in the coffin. Soucy, from Warren and Ouellette, 3-1.
Will Rosenbeck and Travis Ingalls. Travis Ingalls and Will Rosenbeck. Exactly. Always battling to put their team in the best position to win games. Period. Love these two.
With the two wins on Saturday the 2010 Flames assured themselves a slot in the Championship Game on Sunday, January 1st, 2023 at high noon. They finished the round robin section with a 3-0 record, scoring 20 goals while allowing just 2 goals.

2022 Winter Classic Saturday vs. Maine Gladiators – Black
- It has been fun, in a “on the edge of your seat kind of way” to watch Jaden play this season. I am excited for his future.
- Sean appears from the basement steps carrying a load of wood. Oh wait, nope, he’s getting hauled down. My bad.
- Cooper lets a shot go with a lot of support around the net.
- Logan cuts back, ice shavings go flying. Just playin hockey.
- The Flames let the goalie have a good look at this one.
- What happens “After” Math often ends up in the back of the net.
- Here we see Cooper in a private moment when he may have been thinking, “Here I am, flying up and down the ice with my mates. The breeze feels awesome; a result of my speed. Oh right, where was I going?”
- Caleb calmly looks to move the puck up the ice. Jaden is not being hooked on the play, he was working a CPR class with the opponent.
- This type of play was one of the reasons that the Flames goalies didn’t face many shots on Saturday.
- A rare sighting of the “two-headed” hockey player. Logan got rid of the puck so he could get a better look.
- Kaveney 2, plus Petrie 7 = 9 Hawkes, The Math Line. This 6+14=20 is the “After” Math Line.
- Jaden Booth lays into a shot amidst the traffic of hockey players.
- Soucy and the boys were awesome all game. Here, his focus is unbroken.
- Garrett Warren makes a pass in the offensive zone, while his eyes search for a teammate.
- Logan McCain spreads out a bit as he unleashes a shot against the Gladiators.
- McGee takes a pass from Beal who was on the right wing boards. Beautiful play.
- It’s in the net! A play started by Booth’s burst of speed from the D-zone and a couple of passes.
- Classic mano y mano. The goaltender won this round, but both players made great plays in the exchange.
- Teddy Beal gets a nice feed from Sean McGee and puts the biscuit in the basket.
- The Flames flock to the crease after their second win of the tournament. All on a Winter Classic Saturday.
2022 Winter Classic Saturday vs. Presque Isle, Maine
- Logan follows through on a shot against Presque Isle in the 2023 Winter Classic.
- Gavin calmly tries to get the puck to the front of the net for a teammate not yet visible.
- Garrett worked my corner so I could get a shot of him. Got it. Thanks.
- “You’re my boy blue!” Oh wait, wrong line.
- “Backhand. Engaged.” Lines from the upcoming movie, “Tri-Town Nights”.
- Jacob breaks into the zone with the puck on a play that would end up leading to the Flames first goal of the game.
- As a matter of fact here it is. First, Sean gets after his own rebound.
- Then Mr. McGee slams the puck into the net for a Flames goal.
- This was that play where Gavin didn’t make the corner and he slid behind the glass and into my corner. Everything worked out okay.
- Cooper shows us that in order to properly engage the core through a sequence of movements to release the potential energy, first you must open the hips.
- Remember that time Will had to face a shot in the 2022 Winter Classic.
- Caleb falls prey to the modern version of time and space. He distracts himself, wondering, “When I was doing my 30 morning chores, did I actually ‘start’ the dishwasher”?
- Will, I know. I thought I saw something back there too.
- Travis makes a save on a sliding puck that hit a top speed of 11 km/hr. That’s 6.835 MPH to you and me kids.
- Caleb and I planned this. When I yelled, “NOW!” He slammed on the brakes and sprayed snow for a great picture. Thanks CP.
- Caleb lets this floppy laser of a shot go in fear of injury. Or, Travis said, “Caleb, I got it.”
- What a great game. Kids playing on the ice before a packed house in a south rink in NH.
- Keep buyin’ in guys cuz it’s like you’re having a blast improving your games, and quite frankly, we’re loving the results.
- A Willie Mays Hayes (Major League) inspired slide isn’t going to bother a Giampa twin.
- Garrett turns on the jets to break into the offensive zone against Presque Isle.
- Teddy skates by, thinking, “I believe Presque Isle is French for ‘almost island’. Anyway, where’s this puck going, because I want it.”
- Soucy and the rest of the Flames were everywhere on Saturday. Incredible pressure and roughly a thousand pucks that fit the billing of, “GET IT DEEP”.
- Jacob checks his own reflection, while reflecting on Teddy’s thought. “I am not certain, but I think an ancestor of Pepé Le Pew named a military outpost, Fort Presque Isle in 1753.”
- Chase cuts back against the grain against Presque Isle during the 2023 Winter Classic.
- Travis can’t contain the fact in his facial expression that he is feeling pretty good about this Flames team.
- Sean makes all the right moves to break through the D…
- …”In the clear, and what do I do now? Wait! Is Monday really a school holiday?!?”…
- …Then bang, the street is a dead end and the breakaway bid is over.
