December 31, 2022 – 2022 Winter Classic Saturday:
On Saturday, the 2010 Flames were scheduled to play a pair of games in the 2022 Winter Classic. They opened with a convincing win over the Maine Gladiators-Black squad. Then they played last year’s Winter Classic Runner-Up from Presque Isle, Maine. The Flames dominated puck possession and limited the scoring chances for their opponent in a 3-1 win.

Saturday, December 31, 2022. Tri-Town Arena – Ryan Frew Memorial Rink.
2022 Winter Classic Saturday – Game 2.
Score by period:
Gladiators: 00 – 00 – 00 = 00
Flames: 02 – 05 – 01 = 08
Flames goals in order:
- Sean McGee won an offensive zone face-off over to Teddy Beal who fired a quick shot. The shot never reached the net but caromed off of a pair of defenders before McGee dropped a quick, short pass to Jacob St. Pierre. St. Pierre ripped a shot through some confusion and the puck found the net just inside the near-side post. St. Pierre from McGee and Beal, 1-0.
- Caleb Powers sent a pass from the right point to the left point when Jaden Booth slapped a shot toward the net. The shot hit traffic in front but Teddy Beal grabbed the puck and took a quick shot on net. The shot was saved but sat in front of the goalie for a second. Sean McGee poked the loose puck through the five-hole for a Flames goal. McGee from Beal and Booth, 2-0.
- Logan McCain made a nimble move to keep a clearing attempt in the zone with a backhand play. He circled his new possession for a shot on goal, low and hard. The shot was true but saved with the paddle, where it bounced into the slot where Gavin Petrie was hanging out. Petrie flipped the puck up over the goalie, under the bar, and into the net. Petrie from McCain on the rebound, 3-0.
- Jaden Booth had a head of steam coming out of his own end and he carried the puck to the offensive blue line where he sent a pass through Teddy Beal. Beal retrieved the puck on the right wing boards and instantaneously fired a pass diagonally across the ice and through the slot. The pass ended up right on the stick of Sean McGee for a tap in goal at the edge of the crease. It was a great play. McGee from Beal and Booth, 4-0.
- Cooper Lazzaro read the flow of the play and stepped in to pick off a clearing attempt by Maine. Cooper got to the top of the circle and ripped a shot through some light traffic. The puck skipped past the goaltender for another Flames goal. Lazzaro, unassisted, 5-0.
- Sean McGee tried to win the face-off to Teddy Beal but that didn’t work. McGee still broke up the play and took the puck behind the net. As he skated, he flipped a pass back toward Teddy Beal and Jacob St. Pierre, both of whom were crashing the net. Beal took the pass and chipped it over the goaltender. Beal from McGee, 6-0.
- This Flames goal was scored while they were short-handed, and it was a beauty, eh! Logan McCain flipped a puck from the D-zone out to center ice where Chase Giampa gained possession and flew up the left wing. Giampa dished the puck beautifully back to the slot where Gavin Petrie skated his lane and collected the pass. Petrie put the puck behind the goalie for another gorgeous Flames goal on a play that covered some 175 feet in just a few seconds. Short-handed goal, Petrie from Giampa and McCain, 7-0.
- On the power-play, Jordan Hawkes got delayed behind the net with the puck for a second when Teddy Beal came flying through and grabbed the puck. As Beal continued in a semi-wrap-around attempt at the far post he got a good shot into the goalie’s pads. The puck squirted free and Caleb Powers tapped the puck into the net with all the gusto of a hibernating bear just rousing from a long winter’s sleep. Power play goal, Powers from Beal and Hawkes, 8-0.

2022 Winter Classic Saturday – Game 3.
Score by period:
Presque Isle: 00 – 00 – 01 = 01
Flames: 01 – 01 – 01 = 03
Flames goals in order:
- Sean McGee won an offensive zone face-off and Teddy Beal ended up with a shot on goal from the play. The puck bounced and caromed between Beal, Jacob St. Pierre, and the defense before McGee put the puck in the net to get the Flames a 1-0 lead. McGee from St. Pierre and Beal, 1-0.
- This was another goal of the ‘team’ variety. After winning a face-off the puck worked from Jaden Booth, D to D, over to Caleb Powers. Powers got a waist-high shot toward the net that was probably wide. But red-hot Jacob St. Pierre tipped the puck out of mid air with his stick and redirected the puck into the net. Great play. Great goal. St. Pierre from Powers and Booth, 2-0.
- After giving up a power-play goal to Presque Isle in the final period, with the score at 2-1, the Flames answered. Lucas Ouellette and Garrett Warren powered their way up ice with the puck, ever working toward the crease. The puck came to their linemate, Andy Soucy right in front, and he flipped it into the net for the goal that was the final nail in the coffin. Soucy, from Warren and Ouellette, 3-1.
Will Rosenbeck and Travis Ingalls. Travis Ingalls and Will Rosenbeck. Exactly. Always battling to put their team in the best position to win games. Period. Love these two.
With the two wins on Saturday the 2010 Flames assured themselves a slot in the Championship Game on Sunday, January 1st, 2023 at high noon. They finished the round robin section with a 3-0 record, scoring 20 goals while allowing just 2 goals.
