– Goffstown Grizzlies Hockey –
After a massive snowstorm over the weekend, a true snow day, followed by a delayed opening the following day, school resumed and so did the Goffstown Grizzlies Hockey season. The Grizzlies traveled to West Lebanon, NH to play the LSM Raiders. Goffstown allowed the first goal then shut the Raiders down the rest of the night.
I believe it was the second time (two games in a row) all season that every dressed skater (non-goalie) got ice-time in the game for the Grizzlies. This is what team sports is about. It’s team sports – not blow half your athlete population out of the sport or off of your team because you MUST WIN at all costs, costs which include depleting your own population and ticking half of them off at the time, sports.
The team is growing Grizzlies, and that happens by getting reps. Being on the ice in a game situation and looking over at your schoolmate, line-mate, and thinking, “The lights are brighter here in the game, and here we are, out here doing this, together. Awesome!”
Kyle Bennett earned his 22nd career win in net for the Goffstown Grizzlies. With 22 career wins, he is now tied with Madeline Sage (’21) for the Grizzlies All-Time Record for career goalie wins.
Goffstown returns to home ice for their Charity Game on February 4th at Sullivan Arena. I will have more about that coming to you tomorrow morning. Stay tuned.

Buckle up. Here we go. All the points were scored by our kids:
-
- 1st 2:43 – LSM Raiders – Even – Tucker Curtis from Christopher Gogan and Ben Benes. – Early first period, Raiders had their first line out as Goffstown played their third line after using their first two lines. Ben Benes’ speed led to the goal. He beat the defense back and took a run at the short side post but missed. Benes retrieved his own miss in the corner and fired a shot from a tough angle along the goal line. The shot hit Kyle Bennett’s pads and bounced way out to the high slot where Christopher Gogan stepped into a heavy shot. The shot was low and hit the blade of Tucker Curtis’ stick just perfectly. The redirection was done in the low slot and the puck fluttered over Bennett’s shoulder and into the net. I think the line was caught off guard a bit by the speed and aggressiveness of the Raiders first line. Great play by the Raiders. 1-0.
- 2nd 2:58 – Goffstown Grizzlies – Even – Zach Lessard from Teddy Beal and Cam Desruisseaux. – The line of AJ Tramontozzi, Cam Desruisseaux, and Teddy Beal picked up where they left off from Saturday, and even the first period. Disruptive. They got sticks on everything and made it very difficult for the Raiders to leave their own end with the puck. Now they are working on becoming equally disruptive while cashing in on scoring opportunities, offensively productive. The sequence went something like this. Desruisseaux stole a clearing attempt after a Tramontozzi check along the wall. Puck dumped behind the net. Beal battles toward the corner and gets the puck to Cam down low. Cam to Beal, short side, shot hits the post. Scrum in front with Teddy and AJ battling the Raiders for the puck. The puck squirts free and Desruisseaux takes it behind the net to Gretzky’s office. Tramontozzi gets shoved down by Gogan. Beal in the slot beside him. AJ gets up as the puck goes through his skates, and off of Beal’s stick blade right to Lessard. Lessard pumps the shot into the net for the goal. Great work by this entire group. Lessard, Desruisseaux, Tramontozzi, Beal and Booth. 1-1.
- 2nd 10:56 – Goffstown Grizzlies – PPG – Zack Tarrier from Owen St. Onge and Jackson Horne – GWG. – The Grizzlies scored on the power play after having some pretty good chances. After a near miss from Jackson Horne set up by Connor Bernard and Zack Tarrier, Horne got his own rebound behind the net. He skated toward the corner after a poke check pushed the puck away from him for half a second. Horne backhanded the puck behind the net to Owen St. Onge. Everyone was moving, rotating, and trading places on the ice. Well, except for Jaden Booth who moved left and right like he was on a 12″ pole attached to the diagonal LEBANON on the goalies chest. St. Onge made the pass out to Tarrier who had raced into the low circle while Booth was pushed out of the crease by Gogan. This opened a shooting lane for the split second that Tarrier fired the puck. The shot got over Evan Thibodeau’s shoulder for the power play goal. Great movement even though the Raiders were packed in blocking shots all night. 2-1.
- 3rd 0:20 – Goffstown Grizzlies – Even – Zack Tarrier unassisted. – Goffstown won the opening face-off for the final period. They dumped the puck into the offensive zone and chased it. The Raiders were rimming the puck around the boards trying to clear. To one side, then the other. Then all of the sudden Zack Tarrier ‘Datsyuk-ed’ (Look up Pavel Datsyuk and his pilfering wizardry) the puck off of the defenseman’s stick. Tarrier stepped to the front of the net unimpeded and buried his second goal of the night. Just a great steal and finish. And a Raiders dad lost his mind down the glass from me. I hope his reaction was worse in the moment than anything that the player had to endure later. Not pretty. Some parents actually appear to love their children. 3-1.
- 3rd 3:23 – Goffstown Grizzlies – Even – Teddy Beal from AJ Tramontozzi and Cam Desruisseaux. – This was a sequence that had to lead to a goal. Again, this line is evolving toward offensively productive, even though being completely disruptive is already an asset to the team. The Raiders were down 3-1 and now were trying to hit everything that moved on the ice. Goffstown answered some of that physicality but clearly had more of a focus on making plays on the puck while taking hits. It paid off. Beal sent a quick pass to the middle where Tramontozzi was wide open in the slot but the shot was wide-right. Beal got the rebound on the end boards and tipped it to Desruisseaux. Desruisseaux who has played center most of his hockey life still plays like a center when the puck is in the offensive zone. He’s a wing, but his center shows, and it really makes this line go. Cam centered a pass to AJ but he couldn’t handle it and the puck kicked off his skate. Teddy had come in from the boards toward the post and he flipped the carom off of AJ’s skate on the net, nearly beating Thibodeau, but the save was made. Desruisseaux immediately played the rebound on the other side and fired the puck at the net. Thibodeau was literally having to slide back and forth like a bubble hockey player being controlled by a six-year old after too much ice cream. The puck somehow got through the goaltender and Beal skated in and pounded the puck into the net. Tremendous pressure despite absorbing a few hits. 4-1.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” ~ Jesus of Nazareth. John 14:6.
I agree with this statement from a great hockey coach, “It’s a great day for hockey” ~ the late “Badger” Bob Johnson.
“We should be dreaming. We grew up as kids having dreams, but now we’re too sophisticated as adults, as a nation. We stopped dreaming. We should always have dreams.” ~ the late Herb Brooks.
“To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. Number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it: If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.” ~ the late Jim Valvano on how to live life, during his ESPY speech.
