Well folks, the time has come for some high school playoff hockey here in New Hampshire. There are three divisions in NH high school boys hockey and all three brackets are shown below. There is one division in NH high school girls hockey and that bracket is here too. Please check back to the school’s websites to make sure of game times, bus departure times, and any other details that may be necessary.
The teams are set. The brackets have teams assigned to slots and seeded numbers. The prelim rounds are done and we are on to the quarterfinals on Friday and Saturday (March 4 & 5). All 8 teams that played for a State Title last season are back in the tournament this season.
Boys D1 – Concord beat Salem in the Championship Game last season, and Concord enters the D1 Tourney as the #1 seed with a 16-0-2 record. They get #8 Salem in the Quarterfinal round this season. Bedford, Hanover, Exeter, and Londonderry all had 11 or more wins during the season and they may have something to say about Concord repeating as Champs.
Boys D2 – St. Thomas finished the regular season at 18-0 and they are clearly the team to beat. Last season, #4 Dover beat #5 Somersworth-Coe-Brown in the Title game and this year they play each other in the Quarterfinal round. Oyster River went 15-3 and only lost to undefeated St. Thomas (twice) and D1 #2 seed, Bedford. They are a very dangerous #2 seed.
Boys D3 – #1 seed Berlin-Gorham won the D3 Title against Hollis Brookline – Derryfield (HBD) last season and they followed that up with a 17-1 regular season. Then HBD ran off an impressive regular season this year, going 15-3 and they secured the #2 seed. Belmont-Gilford and Lebanon-Stevens-Mt. Royal both had 12 or more wins this season and took the #3 and #4 seeds, respectively.
Girls D1 – Last season, Bishop Guertin won the Title, beating St. Thomas-Winnacunnet-Dover. Then, they turned around and scored a 15-3 season, and the #2 seed. Oyster River-Portsmouth finished #1 with a 16-2 record. Concord and Hanover both finished 14-4 and each of these teams are serious contenders for the State Title.
Get out to the venues and see some tremendous high school hockey and support these outstanding student athletes having the times of their lives. Best wishes to all the teams competing for the title in their respective divisions.
