– Simple Leads To Shutout – January 10, 2026 – Sullivan Arena.
– Goffstown Grizzlies Hockey –

It was evident after just two shifts, the Grizzlies looked different than they had a few nights before. It had a little to do with effort, but not that much. Simple hockey plays. Discipline in the D zone. Shots on goal. Relentless fore-checking.
Perfect? No. Better? Yes.
Simple leads to shutout. The Grizzlies allowed only 10 shots to get through to Kyle Bennett. Kyle turned them all away. It was Bennett’s first shutout of the season, his fifth career shutout. It was also Kyle’s 20th career win in net for the Grizzlies. He tied Kyle LaSella (Class of 2019) who was 20-12-1, with 20 career wins. Colin Holt (Class of 2016) is next with 21 wins, (21-20-2).
I was excited for this game. Mostly because I really felt that the team would respond well after a spirited practice and day off after the debacle on Wednesday night. They did respond well. Without question, simple leads to shutout.
The Grizzlies return to the ice on Thursday night (1/15/26) when they host the Bishop Brady-Merrimack Valley Giants at Sullivan Arena (7pm). After Thursday, Goffstown won’t play another game until the 24th of January.
Goffstown is 4-3 in league play, and 6-4 overall. They only have 3 games left this month before they finish with 8 games in 25 days to close out the regular season in February.

- 2nd 4:12 – Goffstown Grizzlies – PPG – Jackson Horne from Zack Tarrier and Owen St. Onge. – After 19 plus minutes and a lot of shots taken to a very few given, Goffstown took advantage of their second power play of the game. The Grizzlies had just finished killing a penalty when Ben Benes was called for interference on Owen St. Onge. The power play went right to work. Zack Tarrier won the offensive zone face-off (he won just about every face-off he took on Saturday) with ease. Owen St. Onge took the puck and sent it back to AJ Hill on D. Hill moved the puck to Jackson Horne who stepped in and fired from the face-off dot, but missed the net. St. Onge got the rebound in the other corner and took the puck behind the net. He passed over to Tarrier who was in the corner Owen had just come from. Tarrier rotated up to the face-off circle to create a shooting angle. This caused three Raiders to turn and face him. Jaden Booth was in front of the net with one defenseman, and the other was now between Tarrier and St. Onge on the strong side. The Raider wing reacted and tried to cut off any passing lanes for Tarrier. Tarrier was too quick as he zipped a pass across the slot to the other circle where Horne had cut to the backdoor. Great pass and Horne one-timed more of a snap shot than a slap shot, but the puck found the back of the net for the goal. Great movement and the man in front of the net (which they didn’t utilize on the first power play) makes a big difference on such plays. 1-0.
- 3rd 0:18 – Goffstown Grizzlies – Even – Owen St. Onge from Zack Tarrier. – The period started with the face-off at center ice. The Raiders got the puck and dumped it into the zone. As the Raiders tagged up to get back on-side, Tarrier took the puck behind his own net. The visitors sent two fore-checkers toward the net. As they peeled off and turned up the ice Tarrier fired a pass up the middle of the ice. Normally, this would be a no-no. St. Onge had circled out by the blue line and noticed the cushion of space he had. So he turned toward the open ice. Tarrier saw this develop and his 3-line pass (he was still below the goal line) was away. St. Onge grabbed the puck just beyond the red line and skated in all alone. After bouncing some 30-odd shots off of Jacoby Condon’s pads, St. Onge fired the puck over Condon’s shoulder. Incredible pass, tremendous finish, the Grizzlies led, 2-0.
- 3rd 12:43 – Goffstown Grizzlies – Even – Owen St. Onge from Zack Tarrier and Gavin Matatall. – Goffstown was in the offensive zone for 90% of this shift. The Raiders cleared twice but the Grizzlies were right back in the zone, not yielding an inch at center ice. AJ Hill, Gavin Matatall, Tarrier, and St. Onge all had shots toward the net during this shift. Matatall was a pesky fore-checker as soon as the puck possession was questionable in the zone. The Grizzlies re-entered the zone after a clear that lasted about two seconds. Tarrier lost the puck as he cut to the net with Matatall on his left. Gavin grabbed the loose puck and took it behind the net. He spun and passed to Tarrier back to the direction he had just vacated. As the Raiders defenders reacted to the change of direction and were resetting their coverage, Tarrier made another beautiful pass out to the slot. There was St. Onge in the open space and he buried the shot in the top corner of the net. Relentless, simple pursuit, and passing. 3-0.

Remembering Jen Cheney…
The Jen Cheney Memorial Scholarship and Sportsmanship Award (awarded each season)

As a sixteen-year-old junior, Jen was a manager for the very first Goffstown Grizzlies hockey team in the 1999-2000 club season. Her infectious smile and friendly nature was a joy for everyone fortunate to know her. Jen is now our eternal team angel. The spirit of Jen lives on…our team champions an angel memorial patch sewn to each uniform jersey.
On Thursday, May 18th, 2000, Jen was killed by a drunk driver. We are dedicated to memorialize Jen’s life with the Jen Cheney Memorial Scholarship and Sportsmanship Award. But we also want to deliver a message from our team angel… simply…if you choose to drink, don’t drive.

Either way I agree with this statement from a great hockey coach, “It’s a great day for hockey” ~ the late “Badger” Bob Johnson.
“We should be dreaming. We grew up as kids having dreams, but now we’re too sophisticated as adults, as a nation. We stopped dreaming. We should always have dreams.” ~ the late Herb Brooks.
“To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. Number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it: If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.” ~ the late Jim Valvano on how to live life, during his ESPY speech.
