Colors In The Sky
Under an immense and ever changing canvas, some moments seem to stand still. Yet only in the capturing of a photo does the sky pause long enough for a closer look. Click on the picture…

Since we didn’t get a chance to get up to our favorite place in Maine this summer, we took full advantage of a weekend at Abrams Pond in September.
We were fortunate enough to get to Abrams Pond again this year. We had lots of downtime with family and enjoyed a gorgeous week of humidity-free summer weather.Β
Days 1-11. Maine. Hastings Campground. Martin Stream Campground. Schoodic Woods Campground. This year, for some reason, the twins and I decided to do a Camping Adventure 2018. We had never camped for more than 2…
Day eleven. Acadia National Park. Schoodic Woods Campground. The last day of our camping adventure was day eleven. The morning started cool and sunny. WeΒ decided that our lastΒ day at Schoodic Woods would be a little…
Day ten. Acadia National Park. Schoodic Woods Campground.
After dark on nightΒ number nine some clues of what was to come started to show themselves. Around 8 pm, the kids and I started noticing some lightning flashing away off in the distance. As night nine became dayΒ ten, the thunder had started and a storm was closing in.
Day eight. Acadia National Park. Schoodic Woods Campground.
We woke up to a foggy, wet morning on day eight. The kids got up and rode their bikes around Loop A several times.
Day seven. Acadia National Park. Schoodic Woods Campground.
On day seven we broke down our camp at Martin Stream Campground before heading to Acadia National Park andΒ Schoodic Woods Campground. Before we said goodbye to my wife we stopped in Buckfield, Maine for another lunch at Buck-It Pub & Grill.
Day six. Turner, Maine. Martin Stream Campground.
We rented canoes on day six, and it was a blast! We meandered out through Martin Stream into the bigger water of the Nezinscot River.
Day Five. Turner, Maine. Martin Stream Campground.
We had a sunny, quiet morning along Martin Stream. We had lobster and steamers, with corn on the cob, and assorted pasta salads put on by the campground for lunch.
Day four. Turner, Maine. Martin Stream Campground.
We got up after another overnight with heavy rain and packed up a wet tent. We drove east to Buckfield, Maine and met my wife at Buck-It Pub & GrillΒ for lunch before checking into Martin Stream Campground.
Day three.Β White Mountains National Forest. Hastings Campground.
Day two. White Mountains National Forest. Hastings Campground.
Day nine. Acadia National Park. Schoodic Woods Campground.
On day nine we woke up and cooked breakfast in camp. Then we went into Winter Harbor to take showers and get cleaned up.
Day one. White Mountains National Forest. Camp set up just before the rain. Showers tore through the valley and the winds kicked up ahead of their arrival, which made getting the rain fly attached to…
Some people run for themselves. Some run because it’s another race on the schedule. Some run for others. Then some run to compete against themselves. Some run to put distance between the present and something…
Once again, we were fortunate enough to have a week-long vacation in Eastbrook, Maine. All of us speak of this vacation throughout the year, and it usually it sounds something like this, “I cannot wait to get to Maine this year!”
The poem.
Reasons, they fall apart in the face of the truest desire.
But excuses, they pile up in the corners where dreams did aspire.
I thank my family, all around, for making this place come to life each summer; I am the beneficiary indeed.
Photography 101. The assignment was Triumph. I picked this picture because it kind of looks like a “T” for Triumph. Then I also like the picture, the memory attached to it (being in Northern Maine…
Some people take good pictures. Some people look good in pictures. Then, sometimes God just provides beauty we can’t touch but hope to capture so long as we are paying attention. I took a lot…
It was the middle of the day when I climbed in.Β A two seat canoe, a paddle, and me, I did begin. Β The water was calm and close to crystal clear.Β Moving through water,…
We have only been home for 2 1/2 days and I can’t wait to get back up to the Down East. Lord willing, we hope to return for a fourth consecutive year in August 2014.…
On our, now annual, vacation to Down East Maine we trekked up to Beals Island. I love this little fishing village where my ancestors came from. The population was down to 508 people as of…
