British Columbia Road Trips

Even though we ended up at some wonderful destinations during our trip to British Columbia, there were a lot of hours spent on the road. Every morning we left our home base in Salmon Arm,…

It’s Only March

Earlier this morning I went out to clean up the driveway. It was 12Β°F and I needed to rearrange some of the 15 1/2″ inches of fresh snow that fell yesterday. It only took a…

Winter Week

After a week of good old-fashioned winter weather, things are looking a little better around here. We had 31.5″ of snow in the last 7 days. Finally, a week of winter, to help rescue us…

Wet Snow

As I made my way around town this morning, I marveled with the kids at the spectacleΒ of the winter wonderland we passed through. The limbs all around us, bending low, to display their burden in…

24 Hours in February

24 Hours In February   Thursday I was at my Mom and Dad’s house and I was struck by the greenery of the yard, specifically because it was so green, on February 4th here in…

Warm Up by the Fire

After salting and sanding the driveway with buckets and shovel, moving even more snow, and doing some light recycling, I decided to warm up by a fire in the snow. β€ͺ#β€Žilovewinter‬

Snow Removal, or at least Relocated

So, while everyone else seemed to be outside moving snow around, especially off of their roofs (modern English), over the weekend, I was busy with other things. Then today, with the wind whipping, hard and cold out of the northwest, I decided to get up on my roof. I ended up being on the rooftop, or at least on the top of the highest roof I could actually get to, for more than two hours.

I agree Lord Byron

There Is Pleasure In The Pathless Woods There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music…

Some Roads Must Remain Open

A little snow doesn’t stop us; at least, not for very long. Our 14 year-old was on the ice, Bruins game on the radio, the twins were playing in (as well as eating) the snow,…

Thanks for this place

The wind whips the snow against the windows I hide behind Now snow drained clouds drift overhead, flat light I find Then I notice in the distance, blue sky encroaches this scene With it, the…

Surprise! More Snow!

It’s not a big storm, but it’s causing a mess on the roads this morning. We’ve got 4.5 additional inches of snow this morning. There’s just no more room to put this snow anywhere. I’m…

Snowy Scene

I can’t findΒ my driveway, but this place looks great! The temperature has dropped below zero degrees Fahrenheit here this evening, and it will plummet some more before the sun rises tomorrow morning. After several hours…

Selfie from a snow blower?

Yes, over the last several weeks, my snow blower and I have become rather close. But today I think it went a little too far. After another day of clearing snow from my nearly 400’…

Black Brook in Winter

The temperature was 21 degrees Fahrenheit. With the 10-20 MPH winds, the wind chill made the temperature feel like 4 degrees Fahrenheit. The snow was almost up to my knees, and even higher when I…

Thanks #14 (Seasons)

I’m thankful for the seasons. There are definitely four distinctive seasons here in southern NH. There is clearly a spring season when the snow and ice melts and growth gets a slow start. The winds…

Thanks #12 (Weather)

I’m thankful forΒ weather. I know it changes often and it even causes changes to plans. I know it causes damage and can, at times, be harmful. For me, it’s the cold breeze that catches me…

Zamboni Snow

Theodore really enjoyed his brother’s hockey practice this evening. He spent a good part of the time playing in the pile of snow left by the rink Zamboni. He was very busy. He scurried about…

Fresh snow and morning light

Good morning from New Hampshire. We received just about three inches of snow at our house overnight. Since the temperatures have been well below freezing, the snow is light, fluffy, particularly reflective, and blows around…

Snowy hideaway

Today we finally received our first winter snowfall. We only received maybe 4 or 5 inches before turning to freezing rain, but it was enough to keep the kids home from school. I was upstairs…

Not much, but it’s white for now

Finally, for the first time since October, yes October, the ground is white here. At least for the moment anyway. I know many people are hoping for a white Christmas around here. I am not…
