Freezing Under the Weight of “Awesome Wonder”

Freezing Under the Weight of “Awesome Wonder”

So many times in this fast-paced world, I find myself completely stopped in my tracks by the sheer majesty of creation.

It happened again just the other morning. It was 4:30 AM on a zero-degree winter day. I walked outside to head to work, bracing myself against the biting cold. But as I pulled my coat tight and looked up, the physical cold completely melted from my awareness.

The dark sky was lit by stars so bright and sharp that I froze. I didn’t freeze from the winter temperature; I froze from the sudden, overwhelming immensity of the sky. In all of its glorious detail, I felt a profound sense of intentionality. It felt like it was all hanging there just for me.

It is a feeling I encounter often on this journey—like coming around a sharp bend in the road to discover lush green meadows squared neatly by trees, serving as the perfect foreground to majestic, snow-capped mountains reflecting the morning sunlight through layers of elevated grays and blues.

Walking the Earth in Awe

That is how I strive to walk this earth: in constant, intentional “awesome wonder.”

This awe is the driving heartbeat of my ministry. There is a deep, quiet peace and beauty woven all around us by our Creator and Savior, if we only slow down enough to notice it. It is the exact same wonder that generations before us felt when they penned the timeless hymns we still sing today.

I recently put these reflections together into a short audio-visual piece, combining my personal photography of these very landscapes with the spoken story of that crisp winter morning.

Watch and Reflect With Me

I invite you to step away from the noise for just one minute, listen to the reflection, and look at the glimpses of creation I’ve captured.

You can watch the video directly on YouTube here: Watch Walking the Earth in Awesome Wonder on YouTube. Or go to my Resurrection Hymns Page and continue from there.

After the video plays, it will take you right into our full channel playlist featuring deeper devotional reflections on Tommee Profitt’s cinematic project, The Resurrection of a King, including the powerful arrangement of How Great Thou Art.

Let’s slow down, breathe in His peace, and walk in awe together.
